Regarding acquiring a refined taste for coffee. I've done this recently and I don't recommend it.

I used to really enjoy my daily coffee from starbucks etc. Now I know what really good coffee tastes like it's ruined the normal coffee experience for me. Sucks.

I feel the same way about wine. And beer - I spent years learning to like watery lager and I'll be damned if I have to learn how to like strong-tasting craft beers now.

Though when people say money can't buy you happiness, they're overlooking that it can if you are a wine connoisseur.

I wasn't aware that Godfather II was a documentary.

So you thought they just made up a name for a town in Sicily? I guess it's possible, but seems like an unlikely choice.

I'm finding this Godfather talk very unlikely. An American, not knowing about European geography?!

Seems like the most likely assumption would be that there is a real town called Corleone, but knowing about the town or not is more movie trivia than lol Americans not knowing geography. It's a little town with 12000 people ffs.

Americans!

I wonder exactly how bad we USA#1ers are at European geography. Are we worse at European geography than you Euros are at North American geography? Probably.

Probably not by much though. I doubt we're very good at European geography either. I wonder who would be worse at African geography, say? I'm guessing neither has much to be proud of.

I'm probably better at African geography than Euro. Europe has 9 countries that weren't countries when I graduated HS.

I think 90% of Europeans can't name 5 american states

i highly doubt 90% of europeans couldnt do that.
i did have us geography in school for a few weeks back in the day and at some point i knew all the us states and the capitols. i forgot most of that of course.
i have to admit though that i am really bad at african geography i could place most nothern african countyrs correctly on a map but thats about it.

I bet you can do South Africa too

The Euros can name like Cali, Texas, Hawaii, Florida, and New York.
09-07-2015 , 09:15 AM
But they don't know New York is also a state.
09-07-2015 , 09:18 AM
i actually even know there is a state named washington and the capitol washington d.c.
d.c stands for district of columbia

My UK students didn't know Denver, but they all knew Aspen and most of them knew Vail.

My American geography is pretty good actually. When you follow the news it's pretty easy to get your geography up to date.
09-07-2015 , 10:50 AM
I think I could do the Middle East pretty well, along with the north coast of Africa. Anything west and south of Ethiopia (other than Nigeria, .South Africa, and Zimbabwe (Rhodesia!) I'm pretty clueless about. As for Europe, I'd likely get confused in the Balkans.

I would think every American poster in OOT could identify every American state. I doubt everyone could list all fifty states in under five minutes without looking at a map.

I would bet that at least 25% would screw up either Colorado/Wyoming or New Hampshire/Vermont.

80% (21/26) on the strict test version, but I got Israel and Palestine wrong because the display is too small to see which is which. I obviously know these 100 per cent. More realistic result is 23/26. Although in total fairness, I also guessed in Uzbekistan and Tajikstan and got it right -- I was pretty sure I knew where the pair was, but determining one from the other is past my ken. These are sort of like New Hampshire/Vermont for you Euros.

How many Americans can name all of the regions of France and Italy?
