Renting furniture? Renting furniture?

So, I'm moving to vancouver for a year and I'm going to lease a condo there.

I don't know if I'm going to stay much longer after that, so I thought buying furniture was a bad idea. I had never really considered renting furniture before, but apparently it's pretty common.

Does anyone have any expereince doing this? And if so, what were you experiences?

I looked at this place online:
http://www.rentfluff.com/

They want to charge me $400/m for a 800sq ft condo. Does that sound reasonable? The lady who emailed me also said I could pick my own stuff with the hlep of an interior designer which is neato.

Just imagine some ugly fat guy sitting naked on your couch pleasuring himself for a year before you get it.

Uh, I'm pretty sure that's 400 per month to rent the furniture.

Well do the math, OP. 400x12 = $4800. You could buy decent furniture for around that, sell it on craigslist when you leave. If you do end up staying, every month that rent adds on with no more value. 18 months = $7200 if you end up staying that long.

800 sf isn't that big, you need a bed, dresser, couch, chair, coffee table, tv stand, kitchen table. I live in 850 sf now. Seems like unless you buy expensive stuff you'll easily come out ahead buying.

I agree with this....obviously even if your stuff is only a year old you're not going to get very much for it when you sell it but the difference should still be less than what it would cost you to rent assuming reasonable priced furniture.

or get the equivalent of what ikea is. it's cheap, so you really won't mind trashing it or selling it all for 50 bucks in a year

Hahaha, thanks for this. Really.

I think I like the idea of having someone knowledgable setting everything up for me. Less stress on me, especially when I'm moving out.

Basically it's that convienience which I'm paying for, as well as having a nice looking, well put together place.

I see your point about just wanting someone else to take care of it all for you. I like the IKEA idea, as well.

Looks like the place you are interested in rents some pretty contemporary, designer stuff. When I rented a place for 9 months back in 1999 in Rockville, MD, I rented from CORT Furniture. Very basic, somewhat crappy-looking furniture (relatively comfortable, though). I can't remember how much it cost, but the process was easy. I picked it out, agreed to a price, they delivered and set it all up.
