How do you feel about it? Hookers and Blow for life? I mean, that's cool and all. I can respect it.

I'd also encourage you to take a close look at that reality. Take a real close look like you would at your poker game after a few losing months.

Take this image for example.

How does it make you feel?

I had to check to see if this was the same dude who bumped his own teen love thread from years ago and of course it was. I'm actually bummed that those are his only two threads in two years.

I'm hopeful that he is a 20s incel, because I think if he's thinking this way at 50+ he's misunderstood life and there is no recovery possible.

It would make me feel like an English actor in a five year old Jung von Matt TV commercial for German grocery store corporation Edeka.

When we cancelled our family Xmas gettogether, my first thought was "Sweet, I don't have to put up the stupid tree." Does this make me a Scrooge?

****, good point.

Maybe that's why he's so dedicated tho, he doesn't want others to repeat his mistakes. So he took to the internet which is the haven of the teenagers, and a poker forum which surely then must be full of young people because hes spent many a sad lonely night with a TV dinner and ESPN poker watching all these young guns defeat his stalwart idols like TJ Cloutier and Amarillo Slim, and where on a poker forum full of young people are the ones who are most likely trying to figure out how to get that sweet sweet teenage love? Other Other Topics of course!

Also, OP, I'm a little sad you never answered my question in your other thread, I'm very curious to know how long youd rather spend as a teenager in love than as a billionaire

Wrong, wrong, wrong. I'm mid 30's, with a decently successful dating life.

To answer your question:

The reality is that the EV is about even for the 2 scenarios. A coin flip if you will. One is just front-loaded much more heavily. Let me explain.

Teenage Love scenario: EV is 100 points, due to novelty, etc. etc.

Billionaire scenario: EV is 2 points a year, due to hedonic adaptation. Obviously it's a bit weighted to the front for the first year or two of novelty. 2 * 50 years of life = 100 points of EV.

So together, you can have 200 points of EV. BUT, if you've missed out on teen love, you've missed out on one of this most beautiful things in this life. If you've missed out, you cannot redeem your points. Your max EV is only 100 points.

I think your weighting is way off. I'm no billionaire, but I'm pretty wealthy and I was fortunate enough to have experienced the whole teenage love thing. The teen love bit was great and a fond memory, but its something I rarely think about today and if you asked me to force rank my life experiences now, I don't think it would make my top 10. Becoming moderately rich and being able to stop worrying about loads of things and being able to instantly fix lots and lots of stuff than can go wrong in my life or the lives of those I care for has been ridiculously more valuable. I'm not sure what the marginal utility is between having say 1 million to 10 million to 100 million to a billion. I strongly suspect that the most utility comes from the first jump and I'm quite sure that the practical difference drops a lot somewhere on that curve.

There are a lot of ways to find joy and fulfillment that don't revolve around being married. If my wife got hit by a bus, I'm pretty sure that the key factor in my happiness level as a geezer will not be whether or not I get remarried.

His table is very clean. I wonder how he gets it so shiny. I probably wouldn't feel so lonely because I could see my face in it while I eat.

I'd take billionaire over teen love every time. Heck, I'd take being able to pay bills over teen "love." Teen love is ridiculous. It's not even a real thing because teens have no idea what love is. Usually, for the guy it's sex and for the girl it's drama. (I'm a 52-yr-old woman FWIW, and I had plenty of boyfriends and "love" when I was young. And I'm well off, but nowhere close to billionaire status.)

Sadly, most people don't know what love is

As to being single when you are old, all I can say is that if my husband dies young, which he won't, I'll stay single and have zero problem with it. I'm lucky, though, to actually know real love and to be married to my best friend, so my opinion might be on the bright side for some. (I didn't get married until I was 40, so I knew what I was doing.)

There is nobody there to bother him. Just because you find one way of life odd or incorrect...... some people don’t mind being alone.

Exactly. In the next picture, he has a huge smile on is face, is digging into that delicious looking meal, and opening another bottle of wine!

In case anyone is interested in watching the full commercial. Won a decent amount of awards that year. It’s in German but there’s English subtitles and it’s pretty self-explanatory anyway.

+1. With a decent amount of people months behind on rent and unable to buy Christmas presents for their kids, the question is boarderline insulting.

If teen love is 2points, maybe going from $900mil to $1bln is also two points. I have no idea because I don’t have $1bln. But going from $0 to $1mil is probably worth at least 2000 points in that context.

The image frustrates me because they prioritize aesthetic over logic by putting the Christmas tree so close to the dining room table. Not only is it not practical, but it's also a fire hazard having an open flame so close to a tree.

Also if you're a billionaire, the late Jeffrey Epstein who didn't kill hiimself taught us you can also buy teen love.

That tiny flame on the candle has to be at least 5 feet away from the tree. Don't be a helicopter-kid for your old folk.

but if he has a cat (im assuming he has multiple), one could smell the delicious meat, jump on the table (which is allowed as its his best friend), catch his tail on fire in passing, dart for cover, which the closest object is now the highly flammable tree, and have the whole house in cinders before the poor old man has a chance to stand.

Spoiler:
a healthy tree is barely flammable without a lot of effort
