Deep fried Twinkies - Fried until slightly crisp on the outside, covered in hazelnut chocolate with whipped cream piled on top. At the very top of the dessert food chain no longer.

Haven't had a Twinkie in years but now must try to have a last one. I live in Fountain Hills, AZ. What's the line that the locals haven't gotten the news and there will still be some at the local gas station market?

I used to eat the occasional hostess chocolate cupcake or twinkie when I was a kid. Then I learned how to make real cakes and realized hostess made ****ty products.

Right -- cause if I paid a few hundred million for a brand of snacks, the last thing I would want to do is hire experienced staff to make them when, instead, I could have all the joy of hiring inexperienced staff.

The most depressing thing about the Hostess employees being laid off is that they won't have the appropriate comfort food to turn to.

If I worked there, I'd have a 3 year stockpile of Devil Dogs. Much easier to pair with red wine than Twinkies.

I stopped by a Target and Albertson's supermarket on the way home tonight. The Twinkies and Cup Cakes were sold out. But, about a dozen Zinger boxes were in both stores (Chocolate, Vanilla, and Rasberry). I left empty-handed.

I bought my Walmart's last box of Raspberry Zingers. Everything else was gone except for those 100 calorie Hostess snacks.

Weird to see a whole section of shelving empty like that.

From my reading of the Hostess problems, if someone was to redo the Hostess brand, no way are they going to use the existing infrastructure. They have a bunch of mini manufacturing bakeries (?) spread across the US. They basically created a ton of overhead and resulted in a really crappy efficiency.

Heard on radio that Canada will continue to produce twinkies.

The only thing I ever enjoyed from hostess were their cupcakes, and those are easily replaceable by the Mexican version from Marinela.

I always liked their blackberry pies. When I was a kid, my mom would sneak one into my school lunch every blue moon or so.
