While I'm not totally against the "he deserve what he got" crowd, I've seen school shooters get more sympathy on 2+2 than this guy.

Yea, I mean if this guy was white and produced music that people ITT actually liked, I think the responses would be a little different

Wow.

He's not wrong
06-20-2018 , 03:10 PM
Who knows. I felt bad when John Lennon was shot, but I didn't know he was a onetime ******* wife-beater at the time. Still, he didn't do nearly as much bad stuff as this kid did.

Well...... one is a crazy person who snaps and kills people and usually doesn't have much of a criminal record or any signs of violence. The other is a career criminal.

The crazy people who snap just leave us with questions going "WTF just happened?!". If this guy killed someone no one would have been surprised, he literally left a timeline that the conclusion of him dying a violent death seems about right right for how he lived his life.

These are 2 very different types of people.

I stand by my statement. I mean look how many white athletes have basically gotten free passes for being wife beaters/****ty human beings.
06-20-2018 , 03:14 PM
I would never defend a school shooter, but I would agree that the average 2+2 forum member can identify more with a bullied high school boy seeking revenge than with a gang member raised in the hood.

I thought even more black athletes got passes for that. But not from me, I think they should all be banned from sport in addition to serving their sentences.

He clearly doesn't meet the George Michael bar and yet here we are in his own thread, so I don't see how you can think OOT is biased.

That's kinda my point

When its a white school shooter it's like: Well it's very unfortunate that this kid had been been bullied so much he'd resort to this. We need to have a civil discussion on bullying, mental health and guns. And there is usually some sort of empathy for what he went through growing up.

There's very little of this **** him, piss on his grave stuff. And XXX didn't kill anyone.
06-20-2018 , 03:43 PM
Maybe cuz it's not from this forum but the shooter threads I've been in usually make fun of the moron and call him a loser. Or they go MK ultra/they taking our guns route. It's pretty much always goes into a discussion of why so many of them are on SSRIs which can make you disassociate with reality/your emotions.

i first learned about him after he got in the news for beating up his pregnant girlfriend. led me to check out all these new rappers i had not heard of. thought they were all wackjobs.

months later i'm listening to random music on spotify and find a track i really like. check and it's this dude. what? well that's odd. didn't realize half of his music was like elliot smith.

this guy was a total piece of **** but i think his talent cannot be denied. he could have been incredible. but it's hard to grieve the person or the music we missed out on when the guy was just ****ty.

Which garners a lot more sympathy from people around here than gang banging obviously.

Look I'm not saying this dude isn't a POS.

All I'm saying is if he was white and produced music that people ITT liked you wouldn't get the harshness of these responses.

card, I'm not sure that's true. Every RIP thread here turns into a hatefest at some point. Bourdain was a beloved depressed white guy and his RIP thread had lots of people calling him a selfish jerk who deserved no sympathy for leaving his children fatherless. If he'd also beat his pregnant girlfriend and tried to kill a guy because he thought he was gay, I doubt the reaction would have been much more positive.
06-20-2018 , 04:11 PM
Yeaaaa but I was comparing it to the school shooters. As foatie pointed out, school shooters can somehow get more empathy than this guy.

And in the bourdain thread that was a small minority.

Maybe I should have said School Shooters are afforded the sympathy of being "misguided, bullied, abused, lashing out towards society because they don't fit in" whereas urban minority kids who grow up misguided, bullied, abused and lash out toward society automatically get the thug/trash label without any of the same logic applied to why this person behaves the way they do.

Who we identify with on a surface level certainly skews the stance we take on issues like this. Much like chillrob alluded to.

No that was a hypothetical question on your generic gang banger.

He has never killed anyone afaik
06-20-2018 , 04:27 PM
WTF school shooters getting empathy? Where's that happening? Not here that I recall.
06-20-2018 , 04:28 PM
George Michael does not approve of this shenanigans.

Take it to the dead randoms thread if you want to continue this RIVETING conversation on race and privilege-checking.
