I hate this outlook. Not everyone can win, in fact most people lose. Basing your own character on how you perform against others is very lacking in insight. The challenge is to do the very best you can. For many this will never be good enough to achieve wide recognition...If you don't succeed within externally defined parameters (ie, the game), that does not mean you have not achieved. It is literally impossible for many people to win at certain things. Judging them as losers as a result of this is blind elitism at its worst.
