That's not a good way to calculate loss.
If the soda is $1 and if not for the water cup trick, 1 in 5 of those people would actually purchase soda, then they are losing 20 cents per water cup filler

It's a pretty pathetic way to save money. I don't even care whether it's stealing or not. It's only compounded by the fact that drinking fountain soda is a fish move regardless.

The exception is if you actually want water, and then change your mind and are too lazy to go back and buy a soda cup.

Stupid to assume they're stealing, and not that they just have a friendly agreement with McDonald's management about this.

The price of a combo is about the same as the price of a burger plus the price of fries. That doesn't make the soda free, it makes it a buy two diabetes get a third free promotion.

You take a bunch of soda, right? And it's not yours? How is that not stealing?

I thought this thread was going to be about waitresses serving soda which had been poured into small paper cups. I would definitely be against that.

I bring in my own liquor in flask.. just because my homemade **** is 10x's better than anything on the shelf. Idk if this falls in the sorta of the same category.

AP,

You can never tell with KP. This is the guy who thought pedestrian crossing signs only flash walk when traffic lights in all directions are red!

This guys gets it while some of you don't.

Obviously I know it's stealing and wrong so maybe the OP should have been why do people think it's ok to steal soda in water cups.

If I witnessed 4 people (grown ups, not kids) do it today within 10-15 minutes then clearly there are enough people in the world that don't think there is anything wrong with it. I googled it and found many more people that think it's just not that big of a deal.

if you google anything you'll find a lot of people. there's a forum of people who think the world is flat.

may be a bit off topic but is wrong to bring a flask of liquor to a bar thats overpriced and add some to whatever mixed drinks purchased so as not to have to buy as many drinks? the bars or clubs losing money as i wouldve bought more drinks if i hadnt brought a flask in

Well I used to smuggle 4 or 5 brewskis into the movie theater inside my big down coat, but I don't lose any sleep over it.

Anytime a waitress doesn't charge me for a drink, I auto add 1/2 the cost of the drink to her tip.

Define "soda."

Soda, to me, is what you get when you push the little button that says "soda," in other words carbonated water aka club soda. Uses no fountain syrup, the only difference from water being the infinitesimal amount of CO2 in the bubbles.

So, no.

I know it's not right to bring a flask, but i think most of the owners in my area know i do it.. it's a small town and i share the stuff i make so i think they turn their head for that.

I don't do this, but I do keep the refillable cups I buy at Panera and sometimes bring them back a day or two later for more free refills (I get iced tea, not soda if it makes any difference). I have no idea if anyone who works there has ever noticed, or if I am even actually breaking the rules.

When I was a student, rather than paying for the overpriced, watery beer at cricket matches, we used to put vodka in water bottles and mix with juice to drink once inside

If we wanted to drink something else we would empty a non see through juice container and fill it up with our desired beverage then reseal it to pass entry inspection

I heard of a story where a few students sneaked into the stadium the night before and buried a couple of boxes of beer into the grass embankment ready for the next day

Out of interest, these water cups you are talking about, are they glass normal size cups you can see through or are they those little paper cups that you could conceal what you are drinking in?

ABD,

The free water cups are usually small clear plastic cups.

A friend buried a box with bottles of vodka, whiskey, juice, and coke at the site of an upcoming music festival. I thought that was pretty awesome.

Nick,

afaik panera is a buy-one-cup-for-lifetime-refills business so you definitely aren't stealing.
