Artistically, Flair had it. That bigger-than-life thing, no. Just my opinion.

say ric flair's name in any state south of the mason-dixie line and see what happens. Hell, say flair's name to many and they recognize it. That certainly puts him in the larger than life category just as much as hogan

IRM, jericho being mismanaged is the full definition of him being held back. The perfect case of that was in dallas in 00

Macho died and it was covered by mainstream news. Will Flair's death be covered by mainstream news? I lean toward yes, but it's only a lean.

Maryland is not going ape for Flair, I can assure you. Kinda doubt most areas of Virginia would. Carolinas would, LDO, maybe Georgia.

It's still not comparable to the "Big Three."

flair's death will fully be covered by the news. **** all, he's considered running for governor in north carolina and would probably do decent just on his own wrestling fame. His death will easily be more covered than savage's

You'd have to be doing some serious old-time wrestling digging to pull 500 others off. It's probably doable but I took my draft board to about 325 and it got thin quicker than I expected.

absolute will be mainstream

like kdawg said, the guy is STILL a god in the south, he has his own lottery ticket in the carolinas as i recall

the guys past and present who i think will have mainstream impact when they die: SCSA, rock, hogan, flair, UNDRAFTED (<--not who you probably think it is), mcmahon. too soon to tell with a few, but i don't think any of them will resonate and that this will be the full list

That's a fair list and I think I know who undrafted is. Let me put it this way, I know an undrafted whose death will be mainstream covered.

Haha, I just checked my draft board for undrafted's placement (Dan, fix your post to take his name out since IRM now did).

Needless to say that IRM wouldn't approve of how high I have that guy. Not that I have him insanely high or anything, but still.

I guess I underestimated how huge Flair is in the south. I've never lived there. Maybe Huckabee using him for an endorsement in the Carolinas in 2008 wasn't as absurd as it seemed to me at the time.

There is a pretty large area of the south where Flair is king.

lkj, I've never fully lived in the south either. But, I can damn well tell you in chicago (where I've spent the majority of my life) he's still very big. Radio hosts have been giddy to talk to him when they've had teh chance and he's drawn big crowds. The man doesn't come out to 2001 for nothing

Well, that's good to know. I mean, I try to pretend that modern-day Flair doesn't even exist because it just tarnishes the name, but in any case he'd certainly rate near the top of my all-time favorites.

The brutal car accident aspect of it can't be overlooked. That's not to say MM wouldn't have been covered if he had died less dramatically. But in making posthumous comparisons (sigh that's morbid), we have to keep in mind that if Ric Flair passes in an undramatic way it won't come close to wooing the tabloids the way MM's passing did.

Wouldn't have thought Flair was that big in Chicago. Maybe I'm underselling him a little.

I do think his death will be news, and not just down south.

The cause of the death is usually more important than who the person is when it comes to wrestling.

Of the People Drafted so far, I'd have:

1. Stone Cold
2. Hulk Hogan
3. The Rock
--- Fairly Huge Dropoff
4. Ric Flair
5. HBK
6. Bret Hart
7. Randy Savage
--- Next Dropoff
8. UNDRAFTED
9. The Undertaker
10. UNDRAFTED
11. UNDRAFTED
12. Kurt Angle
13. Mick Foley
14. UNDRAFTED
15. CM Punk
16. UNDRAFTED
17. Chris Jericho

Basically using drawing power as my #1 attribute, who would people pay to see in their primes. CM Punk is a wildcard still...his ceiling is huge (sort of like Jericho's ceiling was huge when he left WCW), but I don't think Jericho ever reached his maximum potential, and CM Punk could sky-rocket up the list if he reaches his.

I'm shocked my #8 hasn't been selected yet, as I think he almost qualifies for my Second Tier, we'll see where he goes. This is good stuff tho.

Also Ric Flair is going to live a damn long life by wrestling standards. They won't be able to pin this one on steroids or whatever. That does hurt the juiciness of a story.
