I personally am a massive fan of live music as opposed to cds or whatever and (for my favorite music types) will get to live shows as much as possible.

But I have a very polarized view of good music and as such only ever see similar sorts of stuff, and am interested to watch the cream of the crop from other genres.

My addition; a video from sanctuary which is a massive drum and bass rave in some tents in the middle of a field with the best djs in the UK (read world) playing. As well as being a sick set you can get a view to the vibe!

This is DJ Friction who is one of the best.

So, lets see it. AC/DC at donington? Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock?

Entertain me!

P.S embed my video pls

The live versions of Incubus' songs are a no-brainer. Lots of improvisation, especially from the bassist; the variations from the studio version always improve the songs, imo.

And this CocoRosie was nice.

the best live song of all time imo is Tools Live version of "pu****", but I think to truly appreciate it you have to put it in the context of the original

I generally think DMB is meh and their fans are annoying, but their live stuff is 1000x better than their studio stuff, and the live stuff he did with Tim Reynolds is amazing.

Jeff Buckley's performance at Meltdown Festival has always been one of the most breathtaking live recordings I've heard.

Dido's Lament w/commentary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSVCL262gmU
and the original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOAD6cvQc7Y

Chris Potter's live album Follow the Red Line is also one of my favorites... Adam Rogers takes a guitar solo on Pop Tune #1 that's up there with anything Page, Gilmour, et al. have done: http://grooveshark.com/s/Pop+Tune+number+1/2NgZ5m?src=5

I've always been partial to Bartender myself, just really moving.

Jeff B is stellar.

Well if we're talking about live Dave Mathews Band, I've always loved Gravedigger live.

Very good DMB taste in my opinion. Add the stone to that list and u have all the heavy hitters. Also last verse of warehouse is the most poetic abstract lyrics I have ever heard.

TTI,

That Incubus list is awesome! Radiohead has similar videos on youtube (high quality audio and video for a full 2 hour concert) if you like them.

Dispatch is probably my favorite band for live music. They take studio songs that are 3 or 4 minutes in length and turn them into 10 minutes of sheer awesome. They'll take acoustic songs and turn them into rock songs or vice versa. It's really awesome. Their best album is "All Points Bulletin: Hatch Shell" but none of those songs are on youtube, so instead here's a song from their second best live album:

Original song (so you can see the huge transformation from studio to live): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8MGp3rwOJs

Anyone else perplexed by OP stating his preference for live music over recordings, and then posting a vid of a guy getting up on a stage to play recordings?

Amazing!

Here's some blues from Eric Bibb. He got a bit overproduced at some point by an arsy English bass player who played with him but before that, in the days he was playing with this guy and a mandolin player, he was ****in brilliant.

I went to see Floyd in 92 or 93 in Rotterdam, but still have reservations about saying 'I saw Pink Floyd live'. At least I'd always point out it was post Waters.

Damn that sax solo really sux.

Here's some Floyd when it was 4 guys.
