I have no idea why residents would be going anywhere other than to or from their unit unless your place is more social than most so I'm not sure how often you even see this.

I live on the third floor and have the World's Slowest Elevator. Seriously, it's embarrassing. I only use it if I am carrying something heavy or otherwise have both hands occupied so using the stairs is cumbersome. I'm always amazed at the old people on my floor (the next youngest person on my floor is 58) who shuffle past the stairwells to call the elevator when they could just walk down two flights in less than half the time. I guess it boils down to 1) they have nothing but time, and 2) they must have creaky old knees or something where going down two flights is somehow painful.

For some reason the stairs on either side of my building can't be accessed from the lobby so if I want to get my mail I can either wait for the elevator like a chump or go back outside and take the stairway entrance. On top of that only one set of stairs opens from the outside.

i'm 34, i've honestly lived in at least a dozen different places since graduating high school, and i've never lived in a building with an elevator.

i just realized this now.

I just set off my ADT alarm with the steam from my shower. 9 volunteer firefighters in 2 trucks and 1 fire engine showed up. How embarrassing. I reset my alarm within 10 seconds of it activating but it was too late.

Do they fine you for that?

I don't know yet. This is the 2nd time in 3 days. I deserve a fine. I've had the ADT system for 3 years and this never happened before this week. Bad sensor maybe? We haven't turned the heat on yet so maybe that could have something to do with it. The house is 60 degrees.

Chippa,

Any hot female firefighters catch a glimpse of you in your bathrobe?

Mine came out much thicker than the recipe pic, but they are delicious. I have plenty of almonds left so I may do another batch and cut down on the flour a little. And WTF at calling for egg amounts in half-egg increments?

Also a tad much sugar IMO.

This doesn't deserve it's own thread, not even in the Travel forum, so I'm posting it here. I'm being sent to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for a week - 20Oct-25Oct. I'm going to tack a few personal days onto the end to see Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands. I could also add on a couple days to the beginning and go someplace else. Anywhere within a five hour drive worth seeing? I don't see much on the map.

Also, I've had a couple people tell me weather shouldn't be bad. I don't care about cold, I just don't want a good chance of it raining hard. Anyone confirm this?

One fem came over. It looked like the mother of the 25-35yo VFF that came in the first group of 3. Nothing interesting to speak of. I almost grabbed the bathrobe, but went sweatpants instead because I could see the front of the house from the bedroom window and could shuffle downstairs quickly if the situation warranted it.

are you really asking people to walk up 4 flights, or to walk down 6 flights, every time?

The only apartment I've ever been in that had an elevator was in Italy. I've lived in apartments my whole life.

I occasionally smell smoke. Not like the fireplace blowing back, but more like an ashtray sitting on the table. Sometimes pretty strong, sometimes not so strong. One time I actually got up to make sure the apt wasn't on fire or anything.

I was reading up on this phenomenon and cross-referenced as a symptom. Turns out it could be nothing, it could be a sinus infection, or it could be a neurological disorder. Pretty wide dispersal of diagnoses amirite?

No ****, wtf? Before you get so pissy about someone slowing down your trip to the penthouse who you spend a month catching the elevator on the 4th and 14th floor?

I think walking should be their default. There are times I am in the lobby and both elevators are going up and people wait for like 1-2 mins just to go up to the 5th floor, which I think is ridiculous just walk up the 4 flights of stairs instead. When I lived on the 5th floor of a building I almost always walked up and down.

went to the rugby grand final yesterday. from 12-6 we drank in this place near the stadium. it gets full of fans and close to gametime everyone's singing songs etc, it's good fun.

anyway my friend's gf is stood on her seat singing along with 'oh when the saints go marching in' or whatever when she gets noticed by people. suddenly mid sentence the song changes into the timeless classic of 'get your tits out for the lads'. so now like 300 people are bellowing this at her, with me possibly singing the loudest of the lot. meanwhile her bf is just quietly staring into his pint with a resigned expression on his face which seemed to say something like 'am i really gonna marry this **** hooer?'

it was good. she did a weak bra flash by the way. initial cheers were then followed by much booing.

It's a good idea but I almost never eat cereal. I think I have some honey nut cheerios....
I want to try them in yogurt next. Also the oatmeal + cranberries suggestion sounds delicious as well.
