also the age of the average OOTer - there were a lot of people that only deposited once back in the glory days. there's not a ton of 2008+ regdates around here.
i think its more most ppl had the self awareness to exemplify your initial post itt. i do, tho it took me many moar years than dids et al.

damn, rereading, mia's post is really hitting close to home.

regardless, just realized it, my point is that quitting up money is not equivalent to being a winning player in a certain sense.

I was a net winner of about $10,000 playing low-stakes NL on Ultimate Bet and Party Poker from 2004-06 before Party Poker got shut down by the wonderful US government. That was the end of my serious playing. I did manage to lose about $400 in two trips to casinos to play 1-2 NL last year, mostly due to bad luck although I'm nowhere near the player I was five years ago.

Winning. Small stakes, micro even. Not sure of the exact amount, something like +6k over a few years on the low end of a projection. Haven't been able to really play anything other than a monthly home game since black Friday.

I could never bring myself to play beyonce 100nl and would nearly always choose 50nl over that too even though I was massively overrolled. Like never moving up is probably why I was a winner. But I mean I'd have made way way more money working in the lowest paying job in the world for the hours I put in, not exactly care about winning moneys.

We could go into so many variables here; being able to quit when you're down, quitting while you're ahead, which opponents you choose to play against, whether you sacrifice a chicken before a session, etc.

But to keep it simple I reckon are you up or down in your poker career is a good basis to work from.

My avatar is cropped from an actual photograph of protestors in Libya a few months ago just as the revolution was starting to build. I don't really know what it means, either, hence the wtf? part of my location.

Also only winning because I was lucky enough to have played on stars who actually paid me after everything got shutdown. Only deposited twice and only cashed out like 4 times. My entire roll was online during BF. In hindsight not too smart but I didn't really think of it as money to use.

A+ if you're posting from an iphone and you use "Beyonce" so often that it autocompletes to that instead of "beyond"

I highly encourage all of you that quit as winners to come back.

Because then you'd win more.

probably no chance I even open this thread if I had to click loser....

like Dids said, if you weren't printing mony pre-UIGEA, you really missed out.

I'm still on the grind, but the games have really dried up since the DOJ took over Stars/Tilt

Lol Dids, are the high-stakes breakeven SNG grinders who pulled down $300k in RB not allowed to count that?

I was a winning SNG player until the end. I was never great but I did manage to keep getting better just enough to stay ahead of the curve. Also I still went into a blind rage several times a session. Don't miss that. Lol SNGs.

Up about 40K since 2005, havent really played since BF.

Everyone talks about the party days which I was never good enough to take advantage of for the year I was able to play it, but Cake is where I did most of my damage from 2007-2009.

The SNGs were so easy I am surprised no one has mentioned it yet.

In terms of opportunity cost, I was fortunate enough to have a career since 2007 and used the extra money to buy a home.

This is of course the answer to the question the way the OP put it. Questions that might produce more accurate results might be:

"Do you think that the average OOT poster is/was a winning or losing poker player?"

or

"What % of OOT posters do you think are/were winning poker players?"
[poll gives % ranges to choose from]

Same. Quit about 2 years ago now because the big-money-making was done and I'd been breaking even for 6 months.

love scanning the names on the left and checking on the people i've always been curious about as poker players (then again, that's how i read most 2+2 threads...except for the funnies)

I make sure to play low enough to win. Started with play money, now it's the micros. Can't say my march upwards has been fast or anything.

Another thing is if I can be regarded a poster in OOT
