Hey OOT, I didn't feel like this topic warranted its own thread so hopefully you can help me.

Here is the situation.

We are 4 roommates living together. We all get along pretty well (sometimes go out together, tell each other our day when we see each others etc). We moved in together in september and it all was pretty good until a month and a half ago (mid january) when E. (24 yo, female) started dating a guy, V. (23yo, male) she met at her university.

So now, V. seems all good, he and E. do lot of **** together. Only thing I have against him is that he talks a lot. I mean, my room is next to the bathroom and they always shower together and I can hear them having actual conversations in the shower first thing in the morning. Who does that? But even then, I have nothing against him personally. It's just that we already are 4 living in a 70m² apt (750sq ft) with no common room other than the kitchen (meaning the only social time where we talk and stuff is in a 10m² kitchen).

So what are my options here?

1. I told the roommate this morning that I have nothing against her and him but I'd appreciate it he doesn't live there 7/7 given that we already are 4 here. The convo was really quick, she basically said "ok, I'll talk to him". I'm not sure what to expect but I don't think the convo will do.

2. I could see myself negotiating money wise some kind of rent but tbh I don't really care about the money and if I were to throw this idea, everyone would think I'm a money grabber even tho from a purely economics pov it makes a lot of sense.

So let's say 1. doesn't work out. What are my options? There is no living room so I can't lathe it up.

Maybe I'm missing something but can't you fit a lathe in the kitchen?

750sf for 4 people is absurdly small.

I don't know how much money I'd need to accept a 5th person in a space that small. Probably because that amount of money doesn't exist yet.

If a SO if staying over more than 33% of the time, it means that it's time for that roommate to move out of the apartment and in with the SO in a new apartment.

@Babar
****ty situation and the worst thing is that even though you didn't ask to be put in it, you will come out worst no matter what. I'm not even sure asking to pay is the right play, you could say you live there with 4 because thats what the space allows and him living there isn't even an option. What the hell would happen if you all started doing that, it would be a mess. You should not care about your relationship with this woman if you plan on taking this any further because if she was ****ty enough to do this without even consulting she will probably hold the whole thing against you.

Well, she asked a roommate intervention tonight with all 4 of us. I wish she did it to tell us V. was going to live with us from now on. Obviously the 2 girls had met earlier to prepare their speech. The other dude showed up and kinda sided with me but didn't care much either way.

One of the girl even tried to tell me that having someone coming here to live was "the true roommate experience". WTF? Next you gonna turn the kitchen in a stray dog shelter?

I pretty much word for word quoted you when E. told me I was selfish to ask her not to have her bf over all the time. I was boiling. I feel I did pretty good given the adversity. We settled on 3 nights a week on average. Yeah, in my mind 2 would've been enough but the mood was already sad enough I didn't feel like pushing.

Congrats babar thats about as good as realistically possible in that situation. True roommate experience gave me a chuckle though.

What the hell does "roommate experience" even mean? Is it like "girlfriend experience"?

Start looking for a new place. Gonna end up being open animosity in a 5 person apt that's 750 sq ft. Sounds awful. If there's one bathroom I'd just kill myself

to be a fair, thats really something you should have kind of planned for ahead of time, especially if you are already 4 people in a tiny place. Because roommates getting bf/gf is somethings thats eventually going to happen.

Is his place in the ghetto or something, why would they want to hang out there all the time given its so crowded?

Can you please take a pic of 5 people in 750 sf.

I live in a 780 sf apartment with myself and my fiancee and we are on top of each other. The only privacy is relegating yourself to the bedroom.

How is this possible, is there a conversion issue here and it is like 750 meters?

4/5 people in a 750 sq. foot apartment? Even illegal immigrants have more living space.

how is #5 guy not infringing on someone's sleeping "area"?

here is a 732 sq ft floorplan. please outline where 4 individual people that are not ****ing each other all sleep

Now the shower ritual is going to be that much more irritating happening 3-5 times a week, and definitely every weekend.

Just lol female roommates ever, I been there. Does everyone just stay in their rooms essentially with no common space? Sounds like hell.

if this is a conversion error and its 750 square meters you are beeing unreasonable. if it is 750 square feet i dont get how it isnt very very clear a fifth person is a huge pain in the ass for everyone.

if i was babar i`d get out the big guns now and at the same time look for a new place to live.
start walking around the common area in an open bathrobe and stained boxer shorts sipping on a tall can of beer and ****. maybe get your grilfriend to stay over too. try to find out when they are usually showering in the morning and make sure to be in the bathroom before them and drop a nasty deuce.
just be the most inconsiderate piece of trash you can possibly be.

it really is 75m². It's not huge by any mean but in europe it's your standard univ shared apt. Sorry for not being american.

Where fun happens

that's like 2 by 3 metters or 65sqm. Yup, that's where we hang out.

Girls have been talking behind closed door a lot since yesterday. I'm afraid they gonna go the passive aggressive way about it. **** that, the lease says I'm right, I can always go the legal way.

75 meters squared is pretty damn big.

That kitchen is way too clean to believe four 20somethings live there.

Conversion error theorists - 750sqm is over 8,000sqft.
