Yep. He was a big dumb caveman who was clearly a terrible match for Diane, but she convinced herself that she could mold him into something.

Anyway, I'm not sure Sam ever did anything as dickish as what Diane did when she coaxed Sam into taking her out for a romantic evening on a boat to propose to her and then didn't say yes to the proposal.

The switch to Rebecca worked well because it freshened up the show, but no way she was a better character. Diane’s contrast with the bar employees and regs was gold, and the Sam/Diane relationship carried the show for years.

As actual upgrades go, Woody was a clear improvement on Coach (though Coach was good too).
