I rented a room from a homeowner in Minneapolis. We were the only people who resided in the home. I moved out at the end of January and left 2 bikes behind as I didn't have the room to transport them in my SUV. The plan was to schedule a pick-up date and have the boxes shipped through UPS.

However, since I moved out he hasn't responded to any of my texts or calls. I got in contact with his ex-boyfriend and he said he'd reach out to him and ask what the deal was.

The value of the bikes is roughly 2K.

What's the best course of action?

Why didn't you do this? Lazy people love costing themselves time and money by just putting things off too long. Just wait, keep bugging him, or chalk it up as a loss. Either way it's all on you and you can't be mad at him for not wanting to deal with whatever you're asking a month after you moved out.

I haven't done it because I was supposed to coordinate a suitable pick-up time with him. He hasn't responded...

I'd go back, retrieve your bikes, and leave a lathe in their place.

You spoke with the ex? Maybe if you continue calling him he will tire of you and get something done. Or maybe he'll tell you to pedal your nonsense elsewhere. Banana seat?

He just replied. Said I left the room and garage messy and he wants another month's rent at minimum.

Why didn’t you just buy a bike rack? It’d be cheaper than shipping two bikes

Leave no bike behind!

Or anything else.

I have one. I have (had?) 5 bikes. Was able to fit three bikes on rack and left two behind.

Maybe if you're in a situation where you are renting rooms in houses from strangers, you shouldn't be lugging 5 bikes from place to place.

Why didn't you set something up before you moved out? You knew ahead of time you weren't going to be able to take them. I'll quote meself.

Now I'm intrigued. Why do (did?) you have 5 bikes?

I'd wager a guess and say that cycling is his hobby?

There are various different kinds of bikes for different purposes.

I have a regular road bike, a single speed road bike, two mountain bikes (one cross country, one downhill) and a triathlon bike that's mounted on the KICKR roughly 360 days of the year.

I would have use for two more bikes: A gravel bike because my road bikes don't fit >28mm tires and another triathlon bike to replace my P2 for races and the couple outdoor rides I do on it.

For the price of a month's rent, I know a guy.

3 road bikes, 1 gravel, 1 XC MTB. The road bikes are admittedly redundant. I should sell one, assuming I eventually recover them.
