I am trying to get myself caught up in a genre that is traditionally trashed and/or ignored by mainstream film critics.


Ginger Snaps

It reminded me of Donnie Darko with werewolves. Very original. The opening sequence is what makes this a classic. Its even cooler than the opening sequence to Dead Man on Campus.

Drive Thru

Fast food clown running around dicing people up. A throw back to Freddy style "creative deaths" and funny dialogue.

Idle Hands

Comedy stoner horror movie. Jessica Alba's butt.

Killer Klowns From Outer Space

Self Explanatory.

Btw, I really absolutely despise the recent Saw trend in horror movies that includes the following two annoying trends

1. Its a reality show or the victims are turned against each other to survive while the killer watches.

2. Victims are tied up and tortured to death. I don't find torture entertaining or scary. I enjoyed the first half of Hostel, but once it turned into "they are tied up and we are going to cut stuff off" I wanted to kill myself. When victims are walking through shadows, you don't know when its coming. Thats fun. They might escape. Their death might be cool and creative.

Sleep Away camp. The ultimate campy horror movie. Truly awful.

I agree with one, though I don't hate it. I'd just rather they were running from a clown with a chain saw.

Disagree with number 2. I thought the dude that got hacked in hostel was the main guy who lives, so up until he died I was all "OMG! How's he gonna get out of their now!?" The dude who lived got tied up also, but he managed to escape. There is definitely suspense and a chance they make it out ok.

Peter Jackson's 'Dead Alive' is his best film.

Trauma

Obscure but awesome film by an Italian director about a killer on the loose who is... decapitating all of the victims.

Evil Dead
Evil Dead II
Army of Darkness

Evil Dead and Evil Dead II are both classic horror setting: college students in an isolated cabin in the woods are attacked by demons. Army of Darkness takes the series in a more action movie type of direction. All three are cult classics.

Should add that humour increases with each chapter.
