This is what's nice about iPhones. I have done it this way since the 3G. Everytime the new one comes out I can sell my jailbroken old one for the same price I can get the new one for with a renewed contract. Back in the day when iPhones were strictly for ATT I could also unlock it and make a profit. Too bad that ended.

I like the free apps and the main reason is to use BiteSMS which is just a much better texting application. It allows quick reply and compose from the lock screen. Other than that there are a few customizations that I like as well. Like no dock on the home screen and vertical scrolling on the home screen so I don't have pages and pages of apps, I can scroll up and down through apps rather than page by page. Also, changing the stock sounds is nice. When I lock my phone instead of that quiet click sound it is the chirp chirp sound a car alarm makes when you arm it. Thousands of other things you can do as well if you really get into it. Options are endless really.

I used to jailbreak when iOS 5 was the latest software version, but apple have implemented most of the reasons why I jailbroke to the phone's default settings: sbsettings, improved messaging, infini-folders, hidden unlock, NoNewsIsGoodNews etc... And I can change the look and sound of my phone via zedge, pimpyourscreen without the need to jailbreak.

BitesSMS was great a few years back, now I rarely use text messaging as whatsapp, viber, Skype and other services have meant that I don't need to.

My wife and kids all opted to go with a 5s instead of a 6. They could not one hand operate a 6.

I just got a 6 with a UAG case for $35 at the ATT retail store. It was $30 at amazon, but I figured that I would like to have the screen protector installed and in the case when I walked out the door. The case and the 6 are great so far, coming from a crappy tmobile samsung phone. The 6 one handed is also at the edge of one handed operability for me and I have XL hands.

Well I found one way to fix the scuffs on my screen, I shattered the rest of it.

Has anyone done any screen replacements at apple recently? Do they still occasionally do free replacements?

Applecare?

The hundreds of iPads at my kids school are covered by Applecare and as you can imagine, it gets used quite a bit.

No Applecare, but Applecare gets you charged $79 for this, non Applecare $129.

What I'm talking about is some of the time when people go in with this issue, especially in the first year of the phone the genius will sometimes replace the screen for free.

Happened to me with my 4 a few years ago, and for a friend with a 5 recently.

My ex gf dropped her phone maybe 2.5 years ago and they did it for free, but that was just before they started AppleCare and I heard they stopped the freebies after that. Fwiw I got quoted $150 for a screen replacement recently on a 5.

iPhone 6: $109
iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5: $129

Are the official Apple prices according to the website. If they charge me more that would be weird.

Yeah, if they give too many for free then people wouldn't buy AppleCare...I'm sure they've tightened up on freebies since they launched that

Still worth a try, though

No such luck. In fact I would be shocked if they did anymore free replacements. Every single person I talked to that worked there asked me did I have Applecare? Good thing is I got a brand new phone not a new screen or refurb, so I'm pretty happy with that.

Anyone else that've experienced worse battery life since iOS 8.1.1?

Used to be able to get at least a full day, some times a day and a half, but now it lasts about half a day.

Some things I'd like to be able to do with my iPhone 6, non-jailbroke, most recent software.

1. Make it so my alarm doesn't vibrate. Seriously, what's with this? How is this not a simple setting?
2. Make it so that I get vibrate alerts if my phone is on silent, but sound only when my phone is not on silent.

Any tips?

Had a weird malfunction this morning.
Volume was stuck in the up position.
Fixed by restarting it.

iPad question.

I have the original mini, and got a mini 2 as a gift today. I'm thinking about exchanging the 2 for a 3, would cost me $150 it looks like, but reading some comparisons online it sounds like maybe it's not worth it?

What I'm mostly worried about is trying to run ios8 on it I guess after what it did to my current mini and 5 phone. Anyone have any experience here?

The mini 2 and three are the same hardware except the 3 has the fingerprint technology.
