Yak, can you explain what the different subsets of Asians are, what each subset looks like (so I can identify them), and how it's best to go about interacting with each different subset?

I've always thought they were individual human beings and treated them as such, but apparently that's a controversial POV.

Brian,

The ones I'm aware of:

1. The ones who look like Jackie Chan (all of them?)

Yak can keep adding to the list as necessary.

Maybe jackie chan isnt a slap sticky Asian stereotype where yak is from? I mean they love him in Hong Kong dont they? so clearly its a compliment somewhere

Were you not aware that Asians have pre-dominantly darker hair for example ? Usually if you just bring your carcurator you'll be fine.

Sciolist, I was making a funny. Sawwy.

dictionary.com:

"a person who believes in racism, the doctrine that a certain human race is superior to any or all others."

Oxford dictionary clearly superior to capitalist dictionary.com.

The correct pejorative for Yak is 'clog', at least that's how we always used to refer to our Dutch colleagues - especially if they had done something particularly idiotic.

'I see the clogs have ****ed up the computer system again'

Yak, joking aside, if you were in a Chinese restaurant and some drunk white guy gestures a passing waiter and says... 'Oi, Jackie Chan, can we get some more beer over here?' would you consider his behaviour at best boorish and certainly indicative of a racist mindset?

Because I would.
08-14-2014 , 10:19 AM
All Oxford dictionaries look the same, I don't think that's controversial.

This discussion made me want to check up on my chinese speaking contracters. To my joy I found out they hired a female. The guys seem to be drooling over her. She has got that petite thin ass thing going on that I can appreciate fo sjo.

@Gin n Tonic
I would just think he's a ****ing dumbass doing that right in his face (and very insulting - the dumbassness increases when the waiter doesnt even look like jackie chan). Now if he was getting in an argument with the waiter and would stand up to fight him and say something like 'come on, all you jackie chans are experts in this right ?' that would be racist.

Howard,

C'mon son. A group of goyim asks how long are these Judd Hirsches going to be around?

You are at least going to take pause to consider the speaker's intent.
08-14-2014 , 10:27 AM
What do you call a pack of Chinese SlimJims?

Spoiler:
A bunch of Jerky Chans AMIRITE?
08-14-2014 , 10:27 AM
Tyler,

Btw, saying you are like Jackie Chan was meant as a compliment. He's awesome imo.

You know he was a slave? His parents literally sold him to an acrobatic troop when he was a little kid.

Howard T. - Maybe you're not Jewish though. I might get you and Beale mixed up.

Of course I would, except for the fact that I would not have known that Judd Hirsch is Jewish. On the original point, I would not have said what Yak's colleague did. At the same time, I think the wild social overreaction to anything that comes even close to racism is silly; so I would find the "Jacky Chan" comment to be tasteless and out of place, but not racist in the strict sense of the word.

And by the way, son, "Jewish" isn't a race, so "racist" clearly would not apply to "Jew." The word is of course often used in a hostile way, potentially worthy of taking insult. But again, it isn't strictly racist.

I'm not, although my step-mother is Jewish and I grew up from the age of six in a half-Jewish household: we had a Seder dinner every year and celebrated Hanukah along with Christmas. So I take your point even if happens to be ever so slightly off.

Don't worry, I wasn't offended. (Although my master, who is Korean, might be, lol.) My only offense this morning is having to go back to the dentist, because, after getting a $1175 crown, it still hurts.

I always find it funny that these types of discussions end up centering around nitpicking the finer points of the definition of racism, when it should just stop with, "Oh, making an offensive remark about the Ornamentals? That's cool."

There was the guy in SE (or was it Golf?) that went on and on about "Chinaman" not being pejorative because "Welshman" and "Irishman" weren't, and I'm pretty sure someone in here said "Jap" was a convenient abbreviation.

No disrespect to the Orientals
08-14-2014 , 11:07 AM
what i miss? did some racist commit suicide or something?
08-14-2014 , 11:10 AM
Howard T.,

You are a Lawyer, right? That does mess with your head (it certainly affected my brother a lot). I would expect you to be literal and want to cite the dictionary. That's fine, I don't mean that as an insult.

If you want to get literal and scientific, there's no such thing as race imo. At least there's no precise definition. At least not one that can categorize any human being with certainty.
08-14-2014 , 11:11 AM
racism is career suicide
08-14-2014 , 11:12 AM
Treesong is East Howard, and Beale is West Howard.

There're groups of correlations with specific genes. The groups are pretty fuzzy, but they do exist. http://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress....ays-paws-down/ is a book review that I mostly agree with.
