I didn't get knocked out either. Gave me some meds to relax me, had me lay on my side and went to digging. It was weird though. Since obv my back was towards the doctor, we were facing the same direction. Which means I was staring right at the same monitor he was as the scope traveled through me. So I was watching my insides along with the doctor. Very interesting to say the least.

I pretty much fell asleep during the colonoscopy, so I have only the vaguest memories of watching it.

I also had a flexible sigmoidoscopy where they just lube you up and insert camera - no sedative or anaesthetic (I'm sure I posted this before). It's a seriously unpleasant experience.

The really strange part is where they turn the camera around so it's pointing towards the exit as it were. Also when they extend a little device that looks like a miniaturised fairground grabber to pinch off a piece of the colon lining for biopsy. It doesn't hurt, but you feel that it should.

Fwiw I have proctitis which is kinda similar to what jmakin has, but only affects the last few inches of the rectum and is much less debilitating.

This all sounds so horrible. Sucks I know I am going to be one of the dudes that dies from a very preventable issue. Maybe I'll grow up soon. Hats off to u guys taking care of your ****

Given Family Treesong's history of colorectal cancer, I've been on a three-year colonoscopy regimen since I was forty. I missed a year somewhere, so this will be my fourth colonoscopy. Versed is weird ****: it really messes with your memory. After my first procedure, I remember waking up in the waiting room fully dressed with my wallet, keys, and money clip all in the correct pocket and absolutely no recollection AT ALL as to how I got there. The immediately prior memory is counting down from 10 to 0 on the table in the procedure room.

As anyone would, I find these procedures mildly disconcerting. But I've spent enough time in cancer wards to fully appreciate that this discomfort violently pales in comparison to that; and so I take this stuff pretty seriously. Just my two cents; y'all do as y'all want.

I had that flexible tube thingy shoved up my ass with no meds, just some lube. It was weird, I could feel the thing moving around in my stomach. The doc snap called for a colonoscopy. The prep sucked but I was knocked out for the actual procedure.

I was blissfully unaware during mine.

How...many of you have had tubes inserted into your anus...?

Just trying to beat cancer, yo!!

Might have been unrelated but I had heartburn for weeks after having the tube up the duodenum.

Sometimes during a colonoscopy they do an endoscopy which def gives you a pretty bad ass sore throat which probably doesn't help with heartburn.

is "ass sore throat" an idiom?

This all sounds very unpleasant.

how insecure should i feel for ordering soda at nice restaurants?

alcohol is yucky and water is for poor people
10-29-2014 , 11:11 PM
Not at all?
10-29-2014 , 11:12 PM
If me and you are ever in a fancy restaraunt I'm telling the waiter to make sure your disgusting soda drinking ass isn't in my line of sight. I'll be the guy having Cherry Coke.
10-29-2014 , 11:14 PM
Just make sure to lift your pinky when you take a sip so they won't mistake you for a poor.
10-29-2014 , 11:15 PM
I don't think you should be insecure, but why do you think alcohol is "yucky"?
10-29-2014 , 11:23 PM
Sweet thanks guys, I always felt like a little kid.

Sometimes I go all out and ask what they have in the way of diet, every once in a while they have diet Dr P and I get happy.

Mullen,
Like, I don't know, man? You want me to tell you why I don't like the way something tastes?
10-29-2014 , 11:37 PM
i dont think many people actually go, **** yeahhh alcohol mmmm tastes like lasagna! i think the generally consensus is it tastes awful.

I never understood the taste thing, yea if ur just pounding shots it tastes like taaaint. like 231415 other ways to drink alcohol with little alcohol taste.
10-29-2014 , 11:48 PM
I like the taste of whisky.
10-29-2014 , 11:54 PM
I don't think I really liked the taste of beer until I was in my late 30s.

I gave up on hard alcohol.

nothing is even close to as bad as wine. I'd rather swish Lagavulin than smell wine. There are foods I don't like but I can generally keep an open mind about. Wine and olives... I do not understand how anyone can enjoy anything about them.
10-29-2014 , 11:59 PM
wow, I never would have thought ordering soda at a fancy restaurant was weird. Also, speaking off ass, Diet Dr. Pepper is less pleasant than that. Wtf is wrong with you?

I just had a huge old man moment. I admonished some teenager for littering while I was walking my dog. Tomorrow is garbage pickup, so its even more unforgivable, the lazy punk was 3 feet from a trash can!

I don't drink much wine, but like some a bit.

Olives ****ing rule.
10-30-2014 , 12:02 AM
Olives are disgusting and I cant tolerate them at all. They never used to bother me, but draining the giant can of olives at pizza hut used to make me gag, and ever since then I cant stand the smell/taste of them

wine is ****ing awesome.
