There is no mention of "N", control groups, the statistical method used, etc.

I question any method purporting to quantify an anonymous group's success rate and even he admits the inherent failings in assessing progress. Plus, I have seen thousands of alcoholics get sober over the last quarter century using the program, so in our cases, it has worked for us.

It's an hour a day and costs a dollar, that's a small price to pay for giving it a try. I don't own AA and I don't care how someone gets sober, but it's ridiculous to have a life or death problem and not give one of the cheapest and most available treatments a try. There are 500 meetings a week just in my town and thousands upon thousands of people don't believe they are just wasting their time.

If it doesn't work, then okay, try something else. But for people to say not to even try is being silly. That "private" program that the "affluenza" kid's parents wanted him in was $450,000 a year. I think I'd try AA first.

And don't get me started on "will power", that's my middle name, lol.

Anyone with a clue knows that AA is more effective if it costs money. "ducy?"

I'm not sure what you mean, but part of the program is carrying our own weight. Alcoholics are not helped by enabling their behavior. The dollar pays for the room, the literature and the coffee.

I know the dollar is purposefully spent. I am saying that it also creates a stronger commitment for the person spending it, on the merit of the subconscious voice saying "this is what i spend my money on now," "i spend money on important things," etc.

Tell him that I hope things will get better. He told me a long time ago that his life would be better if he didn't gamble, I think that I would start there. Good luck.

Generally, it's probably better to let a thread die of it's own boredom, because closing threads usually meets with push back. I'm aware the he was trolled, but that goes for many and just your being here will generate responses. Again, he's a good guy with a fixable problem, his whole life is in front of him.

You guys are so mean and I wasn't trolling, lol. I have seen amazing changes in people over the years and that can come true for tbab as well. It's beyond belief how people can become completely new when you take an addiction out of their life. (And sometimes, but not always, add therapy.)
