Had the Quesorito. It's decent, not something I think I would ever intentionally crave, but if I went to TB again I probably get one. Not as big as I thought it would be. $2 about right for it but anything more would be meh.

also had the chicken version of the TBell quesarito a few days ago. flavor was ok and i didn't experience the extreme runniness of fillings that others have mentioned ITT, but it simply had too much tortilla to filling ratio (as you might expect with two torts). they'd probably be better to just put the extra cheeziness inside the burrito and only have one tort.

Along with Rubio's, tried another new ff place on the way home from CA yesterday: stopped at Freddy's Steakburgers.

Wife ordered a single steakburger w/ cheese, I had the double + bacon, and we split a large fries. Both of us were really pleased with the burgers. The patties are super thin, and they get a bit crunchy on edges. Default toppings are mustard, onion & pickle, and I dipped most of my bites in the "freddy's sauce" they had next to the ketchup - basically big mac sauce/INO spread. I also sprinkled some of the fry/burger seasoning (similar to Red Robin fry seasoning) on my burger which made it pretty salty but gave it a nice zing as well. Both of us decided the closest thing it reminded us to was In n Out burgers, but it's really not that close - different style of patty/cooking, and none of the lettuce/tomato toppings you get at InO (although they did have the "California Style" option that had l/t/o, plus the above-mentioned sauce). It just reminded us of InO because it tasted really fresh off the grill the way InO always does.

The burger patty style reminded me of smashburger, but I much preferred my one trip to Freddy's to the one Smashburger I've had. Anyway very much enjoyed the burger, would eat again.

Fries were great too. Shoestring fries cooked to perfect crispness, with a little of the RR-like spice on them (I added more). Large was a huge serving that was more than big enough for the two of us, although I didn't let any of them go to waste.

Double-bacon-burger/fry/soda combo ran 7.99 which was a fine deal. I'd rather have a double-bacon from 5G, but at 5 bucks cheaper Freddy's is a nice, strong play.

We also tried the frozen custard deserts. Both got a concrete (think DQ Blizzard) - mine was s'mores, wife's was cookies & creme w/ gummy worms. Thought both were OK, nothing special. Definitely a full step below a Blizzard. It was 2 bucks to upgrade a meal combo to a mini concrete for my wife, and my regular size was a hefty 5 bucks. Would say you need the regular size too, mini was very small.

Will happily go back for burgers and fries, but will stick to the soda and get out for <20 for 2. For desert would straight-up prefer a slush from Sonic, and would be 1/2 the cost (or less).

Last post reminded me of another TR I meant to write: Sonic milkshakes. Summary: ugh, wth?

Sonic was running a promo for 1/2 price milkshakes after 8 pm (not sure if all summer?), so convinced the wife we needed to try them a week or two ago. Picked them up with dinner ($5 little caesars pepperoni pizza + $3 breadstick/sauce, which should be mentioned was completely solid for less than 10 bucks).

First off, sonic drive thru was insanely busy. (They also have I think the slowest per-car turnaround of any fast food drive thru. It has to be like 4 minutes per car if they order food. I will start my day w/ a 99 cent large drink at least once a week, but if I see more than 2 other cars in the drive thru ahead of me I will abort. They really should put in a drink-only line.) There must have been at least 10 cars wrapping around to the front of the building. So, went to the park/order system instead. Didn't take too long, and I soon had a Lemon Pie milkshake for me and a Chocolate Hazelnut for the wife. At 1/2 price think it came to $4 something.

Unfortunately, they weren't worth the price. Wife's hazelnut was OK, but far from compelling based on my taste. I thought it tasted pretty artificial, but she did say it got better as she ate/drank it, and was better at the bottom.

My Lemon Pie was pretty bad. Very, very (very) sour, but was also kind of patchy in that sometimes it tasted mostly like vanilla, then you would take a sip and get hit with a ton of sour lemon flavor. Maybe they didn't mix all the way. Even so, I want a lemon-pie-filling sweetness, not just sour mixed with vanilla ice cream. So don't think I'd like it even if mixed right. Threw 1/2 of it out, which is not something I usually do with dessert.

I think Sonic slushes are pretty great - the real fruit lemon berry tastes very good, and lets me tell myself I"m healthier as I eat my 4 real stawberries swimming in a cup of simple syrup. Also like the totally fake peach one. Will absolutely be sticking with these going forward.

Not true, from wiki:

The brothers wanted to call their restaurants "Big Tex", but that name was already used by an Akron business. Instead, they chose the name "Arby's", based on R. B., the initials of Raffel Brothers.[10]

Aren't you guys glad the internet exists? Before it, you'd just have to believe anything that any idiot says.

Man its been a solid 6 years or so since Ive been to Sonic but usually always ordered them big slushies for the happy hour and tator tots/jalapeneo poppers. Never had the milkshakes but would think they would be decent (well at least standard flavors).

Yeah I expected Sonic to be pretty good at ice cream/shakes. But in the last 3 months I've had the 2 milkshakes (both misses), and their "master blasts" (their version of the blizzard) - wrote about them itt, one was pretty good (cookie dough) and one was legit unpleasant to eat (caramel brownie). I'm close to putting a moratorium on ice cream there, slush is too solid an option to risk a bad disappointment.

In other news though, I now have a craving for some chili-cheese tots.

That banana vanilla wafer pie sounds like a rip-off/homage to the classic southern banana pudding dessert, here immortalized by a great underrated group:

I tried Blaze pizza today, it's Chipotle style build your own pizza place. They serve 11in custom personal pizzas for $7.65. You can choose from a couple of types of dough and sauces and lots of cheese/meat/veggie choices. The line moved quickly despite a crowd and the food was ready in about three minutes.

I think they were a little light handed with the sauce and cheese but you can ask for more of anything for no extra charge. Crust was good, toppings were fresh and unlimited. The side salads looked a bit pricey for their size. They had a few beer/wine selections as well.

They're opening a bunch of locations nationwide this year.

When you order a pizza at any other place aren't you basically "building" it how you like? I guess the one set price is the hook.

Burger lovers,

12 up-and-coming burger chains: http://www.thrillist.com/eat/nation/...in-restaurants

I've talked about Super Duper a bunch in this thread, love it.

Burgerville is very good.

Umami burger I thought was good but not super impressed for the very high price.

Beck's Prime is is great. Amazing burgers and shakes.

Both Umami and Beck's are more sit-down casual places than fast-food.

This was my experience at Sonic as well. Went there twice during their version of happy hour (around 3pm or so) to snag a cherry limeade at half price. Took 3+ minutes both times with no one else in the drive thru line. I think I tried the half off milkshakes once with an even less efficient experience before vowing to never return while I had access to Cookout.

Cherry limeade is damn tasty though.

CFA grilled nuggets were exactly what i thought they would be. Decent, will eat when watching my calories. Of course they suck compared to GOAT fried nuggets

Guy at work says he cant eat CFA anymore because it hurts his stomach. I'm thinking of firing him

You had to WAIT for THREE WHOLE MINUTES in a DRIVE THRU?!?! Why didn't you take them to court for all the money you lost in that time.

FFS, just because a drive thru isn't full doesn't mean they don't have lines inside. Your order goes into a queue, doesn't matter if it is in store or drive thru, when they get to it they get to it. If you go at a specific time when other people will be ordering the same or similar items that station gets busy, therefore you wait in the queue. Had you only ordered a sandwich, you might have been in and out in less than 1 minute, but you didn't.
