You SAVED a man life! Wow, nice job.

I didn't even know what horsey sauce was! He offered me some other cowboy sauce (which I accepted) but didn't even open. I totally fell for the 2 for 7 only because a regular beef and cheddar was like $6 and I thought it was a good size sandwich. Ugh.

Didn't get mozza sticks because of pending Culver's

grando,
I'm not as adventurous an Arby's patron as these other guys, but I've been going occasionally for a long time. You must, at least once, experience a regular roast beef sandwich with both Arby's Sauce and Horsey sauce applied. That is their roots.

I left that trail once or twice but always returned as that being the optimal spot for me. Simple pleasures for a simple man. I do also like their curly fries, but they need to straighten them damn things out!

not in this instance, because it is something you are paying for.
TIP should be issued PRIOR TO service, therefore you are buying insurance for promptitude.
this idea of a TIP after you have already been served or serviced, is wrong... that is a gratuity.

I might've broken the record for lowest ROI in buffet history. I needed a quick bite given day drinking to keep the buzz going so I decided the Pizza Ranch across the street would suffice for a few calories.

So I pay - tipping $5 for some reason - and put my cup on a table while I scout the offerings. Somehow it's orders of magnitude worse than the only other one I was at like a year ago. All the pizza was lower quality than microwave pizza, no cheese sticks, chicken was old and there were no salads or dessert pizzas out.

I picked up a slice of some meat thin crust, a chicken thigh and a breast. The chicken was bad and the pizza was just as bad. So I leave it and go back for fresh cheese sticks. The marinara was completely empty and it looked like Michael j fox cut the cheese sticks. They were dry. So I had 2 bites, left the rest and just left my 2 plates on the table. Gotta save that appetite for something better!

10 years ago, I went to a Pizza Ranch in Wisconsin. I loved it! I put it ahead of Cici's, Golden Corral and Hometown Buffet. I was sad they were upper midwest only. I hate when the mighty falls.

I've never tried the wraps. The pictures look good!

Dessert pizza is pizza dough baked with fruit (like apples in syrup) on top and icing instead of cheese.

Also sad to hear grando's report on Pizza Ranch. The couple times I've been in one in small town midwest, I enjoyed it.

All true (I'm in SLU not downtown). But, Jimmy Johns is $11 IIRC for a sub vs. same price for a chicken bowl at Chipotle for probably 33-50% less same-quality food; Halal Guys is a buck or two more expensive; both of those places ask for a tip too. (Berliner is a nice little local place, I get there every other month or so, but as it's not a chain I keep it out of this thread.)

Those Arby's pics looked closer to a B+ than C+ to me, but obviously I didn't taste them. And it's been covered, but wanted to reiterate that the deliciousness of Arby's RB sandwiches goes way way up when you add Horsey and Arby sauce. (I do have to admit that looks like a sad amount of roast beef on that BnC though). Kinda surprised the chicken disappointed; I haven't had one in probably 15+ years (except that one time 5-10 years ago when they sold that sandwich made out of every meat in the building, had to try that for science of course), but Arby's was actually the first chain to lean into quality chicken sandwiches like 25 years ago - they upgraded the chicken lineup and had a couple of good variants (bacon & swiss, and chicken cordon bleu - that latter was damn good back in the day).

Never been to Hometown buffet but Cicis and Golden Corral are disgusting.

Hehe. I would say that is more true of the clientele than the food.

in 2005 market pressure from quiznos resulted in subway adding ovens to every single franchise so they could toast sandwiches just like spongemonkey

now they feel the heat from jersey mikes and are adding slicers to cut your meat to order and using numbers to identify sandwiches
my prediction: less reliable than mcdonald's shake machines

The clientele are worse than bus people.

'bus people' is the result of something that should not be encouraged

I think I read that it's not sliced to order, but instead they do the slicing in the morning or on downtime. And what if someone can't eat ham, are they going to clean the slicer after slicing ham? I doubt that.

You gotta have the right attitude going into a chain buffet.
You can't lose track of 'it's more about the price than the quality'.
Keep your expectations low, and if you find a couple of edible items, it's a win.

Beef n cheddars used to be great back in the day when they put the sweet red sauce (not the Arby's sauce) on them.

Not sure if they even make that stuff anymore. The last few I remember having were highly disappointing because of it. Horsey would just drown out the flavors, and regular Arby's sauce is vile imo.

The only difference between Arby's red ranch sauce and Arby's sauce is cayenne pepper.

You are so right. I thought I was crazy remembering that extra sauce. Definitely made the sandwich hit on another level.

Specifically, it’s the way the sauce and the cheese mix together. Way different flavor than any of the available sauces.

Damn, + a million to that "BnC Red Sauce" comment! I totally forgot about that, but you are 100% right and it made the sandwich way better. I don't live near an Arby's but will be near one and grab some 2-3 times/year. The last couple years I noticed myself enjoying the standard roast beef sandwich more than the BnC, I assumed it was just my palette changing a little but nah, it's because some accountant killed one of the 4 ingredients on the sandwich so they can squeeze out an extra penny and a half profit per unit.

In high school I worked at a Lee's Chicken. This location lost money, maybe broke even (to my understanding at the time, high schoolers are idiots). We had a new manager come in, and she cut all the jelly packets except grape, because grape was the cheapest. Only grape jelly available from then on.

Also the pot pie seasonal and the bbq chicken (off menu but available year-round) was the unsold breast and thigh meat from the previous day. A closing duty was to take the unsold pieces, tear the skin off, and pick the meat off the bones and put it into a container for use the next day on those items. I made up a song to sing while I did it.
