Toppings all are personal preference, but I go with onions and sometimes a little ketchup if I'm in the mood. And if I happen to be hammered and taking someone to Geno's because it's 3:00a and they've never been, I'll put hot peppers on there.
I am perplexed that someone allegedly from the area would refer to a cheesesteak as "a philly." Seeing a cheesesteak referred to as "a philly" on a menu is actually a good way to know to stay away from it.
