DQ 1/2 pound flame thrower was interesting. First off, it was a big ass burger. It stays together super well. Most big burgers tend to become burger salads. There was a good backyard BBQ taste to it. However, It felt a bit dry, like the patties had been frozen and had little blood or fat in them. Their special sauce was really good but not enough quantity. 8/10 will eat again.

Ampm 5 minutes south of fortune poker in Renton WA. Midnight.

Molded pig patty on a hoagie bun with a smear of bbq sauce. Added onions and pickles. Basically tastes like a McRib.

Definitely one of my favorite ff burgers. Maybe you ran bad on the beef.

I need to go to AMPM tomorrow.

you guys realize that the mc rib only comes around when pork prices are down, right? that means when there's an overabundance of sickly swine they grind em up and turn em into mcribs.

Nashville Hot is super oily and not spicy imho

Georgia Gold > Nashville Hot

Part of the reason is that you don't expect it to be spicy and then have it fail at it.

Had the Wendy's tenders with s'awesome sauce over the weekend. Really enjoyed the tenders but they were quite small, dunno if they were standard size or that was variance runbad. Sauce was solid. Also had my first Son of Baconator, very tasty and a manageable 630 calories for those of us who care about that.

Where I've been the last several years you have the choice of either on the receipts.

I'm skeptical.

I recall reading years ago when McRibs had only been out for a few years that hog futures or whatever they're called took wild swings upward when McRib season came around due to the increased demand for pork because of McD. I would think that effect would be even more pronounced by now and that the market (heh heh) would have adjusted due the awareness of the seasonal demand.

I️ had the shrimp chow mein today, it’s a tasty quick go to for me. The noodles are soft rather than the crunchy version you often see in chow mein. My only nitpicks are that the noodles require a little extra tossing to be thoroughly sauced, and today the green beans were slightly undercooked for my taste. All of the other veggies were good, and today was the first time it’s been an issue so I️ think it’s a one off occurrence.

Oh snap! What an opportunity for insider trading. All you have to do is be in Mickeys corporate hq and find out when they plan to McRib it, and load up on hog futures.

if this is correct, the bounce upwards is a result of the mcrib, not a reason for it.
the mcrib is obviously a commodity trade that only comes around when pork futures are down. there is a cap on the price they can sell the pork they buy (the mcrib), and there is a profit they need to make to even make it worth their while (sell price - buy price). it's not worth it to them when pork prices aren't low.

Went to AMPM, two rib sandwiches and a 42 oz Dr. P for $4.08. Pretty solid. Obv the food is trash but enjoyable enough.

I think I agree with this--if I understand it correctly.

McD would only offer the McRib when pork prices were low to maximize their profits--unless they were to increase their McRib prices, of course.

However, simply by being such heavy buyers in the market, they do push the prices higher. I am certain McD has much brighter people than me making those decisions.

They can also use futures to lock in a price when prices are low. Say hog prices drop next week and Mickeys wants to run McRibs next April (oh, if only it were so). They just buy hog futures for delivery in Apr to lock in the price.

My wife has to remind me every year that it is after Halloween but before Thanksgiving--usually closer to Thanksgiving. But around here, Christmas came early this year!

Limited availability
Apart from weak sales, other theories for the limited availability of the McRib include the higher prices and unreliable supply of pork, the limited-time allure making it a better loss leader for McDonald's, and the scarcity adding to the hype of the sandwich. An informal 2011 study entitled "A Conspiracy of Hogs: The McRib as Arbitrage" draws a correlation between the price of pork and the timing of McDonald's offering the sandwich, as all five of the US McRib offerings between 2005 and 2011 have occurred during low points in the price of bulk pork.

The official explanation from the McDonald's website concerning the sandwich's limited availability is: "We like to change up our menu throughout the year by offering some limited time only items, like our Shamrock Shake in the Spring. The timing of the McRib's return can vary from year to year, but most recently, it's made its appearance in the Fall."
