quirky stop motion animated film with PSH as Max.

highly recommend.
Max and Mary was fantastic.

I went back through the last 100 posts and didn't see anything about Snowpiercer. I highly recommend it. There is quite a bit of conversation about it in the lounge thread if you're interested. Cliffs is that it's a very well done dystopian world where the last remnants of humanity survive in a train powered by a perpetual motion machine.

Snowpiercer is incredibly polarizing. There was a lot of talk about it in here last year. I liked it too btw.

Looking forward to this.

How is it that Netflix, HBO, Showtime, AMC can keep making incredible shows that I love, and I am totally uninterested in every series on ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox?

Todd Barry Crowd Work special is worth a watch. Interesting comedy special. No material, just works the crowd.

This, and the cost of failure is usually much greater for the networks, which results in less risk, and ultimately less reward.

they also seem to be trying to pander to the broadest possible audience and are loathe to offend anyone as all they care about is ad dollars.
so they end up with the most bland vanilla crap possible and they don't care because they're not trying to create art.

Netflix n HBO don't sell ads n are genuinely trying to create awesome shows.

+1 but I wouldn't say "pander" I'd say "reach"

Network TV is meant for everyone, so it has to appeal to everyone, so it by nature has to have wider appeal. Things that Netflix and HBO and even amc produce can be more polarizing, which allows them to take more risks.

I think there's still an art to making a good network show.

The "network" advertising model is already dead but the networks won't give up on it just yet. I see a future where the only live TV is news and sports. Eventually everything else will be subscription.

The guy who appears to be playing Escobar is Wagner Moura, an elite actor. Normally wouldn't be hyped on this series but I'm definitely gonna watch just because of him.

On a related note, unless it came off recently Tropa de Elite 2 should be on Netflix. If you liked City of God you'll most likely really enjoy it. He plays a special forces type cop who discovers his new unit is crooked and it goes from there. Although it's technically a sequel there's no real need to see them in order as the stories are almost completely unrelated.

Hilarious show, but still quite offensive in that I greatly resemble Mr Peanutbutter in looks, style, and mannerisms. Also, I dig brainy asian chicks.

Colombians are mad because Moura can't put off the Colombian accent, and I can't blame them.

Knights of Sidonia season two is pretty terrible.

The mysterious history and cool space combat are gone. They've been replaced by boring flirting and penis monsters
