Netflix n HBO don't sell ads n are genuinely trying to create awesome shows.
+1 but I wouldn't say "pander" I'd say "reach"
Network TV is meant for everyone, so it has to appeal to everyone, so it by nature has to have wider appeal. Things that Netflix and HBO and even amc produce can be more polarizing, which allows them to take more risks.
I think there's still an art to making a good network show.
