These people are ******ed. I always thought they could make a ****load of money by putting movies currently in theaters into an on-demand cable service for a price similar to what a movie ticket would cost. Say $8-$14. Movies that used to make 20 million on opening weekend would make 40-50 million. Why are they so resistant to this? Do they get a huge cut of popcorn/candy/soda sales at theaters or something? LOL at $30 for a pay-per-view movie.

Yeah there's clearly times it will be +EV to spend even $30 a movie. There's no way that hurts Netflix though.

They'd still make more money charging 8-14 for on demand. The base of customers that would spend $30 for a pay-per-view is pretty much the same group of people that would actually go see the movie in a theater. If some one is willing to add 30 bucks onto their cable bill so they can watch whatever movie, they would probably go see it in the theater if pay-per-view wasn't available. By making it cost the same as a single movie ticket, they'll attract customers that would never even consider seeing the movie in a theater. All of the people who are sort of interested in a movie, but decide wait for it to be out on DVD or HBO or whatever would seriously consider paying extra to see the movie immediately.

They'll lose quite a few theater customers, but they'll sell many more viewings overall. People who would go see 1 or 2 movies a month at the theater would likely order 5-6 on cable. People who rarely ever go out to the movies would become steady customers.

Studios would lose on big blockbusters that everyone goes to see like Avatar, but they'd make a ton more money on all the mediocre-selling movies they put out.

$30 is too much money for the average consumer. For $30 you can go to the movies, and see a movie on the big screen.

I just bought an XBox this week and switched the majority of my streaming from Wii to it and the difference is unbelievable. My Wii would have streaming interruptions so often i gave up on trying to stream on it.

In 5 days I have had exactly 1 video get interrupted as compared to at least 1 or 2 a day with the Wii. Even my PC has not been as reliable as my Xbox.

Inland Empire>Mulholland Drive imo.

I'd much rather pay $30 for me and my girlfriend to be able to watch a new movie on our couch than $20 to see it in a theater. I bet there are a lot of people like me.

That takes balls to say. I wouldn't recommend that to a Lynch noob though.

Yea they've had the first few plus the recent few plus "Best Of"s for a long time, that's nothing new.

The last I heard about this was that the movies were not going to be actually brand new, as in playing at the actual theatre. So if you were to just wait a few months more you would be able to actually buy the movie, and own it for life with the ability to watch it anytime you want.

Watching a movie at home vs at a theatre are two different experiences. bigger screen, better picture, and louder sound. People are getting ripped off ten dollars because the quality isn't the same.

I'm not a huge anime fan, but I like some. They just added 'Fullmetal Alchemist' which I used to watch on Adult Swim and it's probably one of the top five anime shows ever. It's average rating is 4.4 out of over 130,000, so it's not just me liking it. It has a pretty good mix of action, comedy, and drama. It scores a 9.1 on IMDB. Highly recommended.
