These are all great recommendations though I haven't seen Insidious so I just added that to my queue.

I went through my viewing history and picked out some recommendations. I tried to make sure they were all still available on WI but I may have missed some. Here's what I got:

Stake Land (vampire movie, has been recommended a lot already itt)
The Thing (Kurt Russell, 1982...John Carpenter)
The Omen (classic)
Rosemary's Baby (classic)
The Innkeepers (more humor than scares but I liked it quite a bit)
Let the Right One In (Swedish vampire movie - great!)
The Faculty (awesome cast, definitely check it out)
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (highly recommended)
Antichrist (Lars von Trier, Willem Dafoe...pretty intense movie, I liked it)
The Hole (not the Thora Birch one)
The Hole (the Thora Birch one)
Severance (black humor...corporate retreat turns into mayhem)
The Caller (woman getting weird calls from past)
Occupant (guy squatting in dead grandma's amazing NYC apartment, **** starts getting weird)
Thinner (Stephen King)
Sometimes They Come Back (Stephen King)
Bag of Bones (two part tv series, Stephen King, Pierce Brosnon)
The Machinist (Christian Bale...not horror but great)
Deadgirl (teens find weird catatonic naked girl, they start being *******s)
Scream (yeah...)
Candyman (yeah...)
Gothika (Halle Berry, RDJ)
The Legend of Hell House (classic)
The Fog (old Carpenter classic)

Dead Snow (Norwegians vs nazi zombies...soooo good)
The Horde (very solid zombie flick)
Dylan Dog: Dead of the Night (Brandon Routh zombie detective movie, fun)
Rammbock (german zombie film...good)
Doghouse (dudes on weekend trip away from ladies fight zombie women, lol)
Pontypool (different take on zombie genre, often gets referred to as a "thinking man's" zombie movie)

Waxwork (classic 80s jam)
The Stuff (lol 80s)
House (lol 80s)
Creepshow 2 (80s, if you haven't seen it you should)
Monkey Shines (80s...george romero, quadriplegic guy has experimental genius monkey to help him out - **** gets crazy)
Warlock (yeah...)
Hellraiser series (should see at least the first couple if you haven't already)

Vile (people wake up trapped in house, must torture each other to get free)
Hunger (people kidnapped and held prisoner in weird cave without food)
Senseless (guy imprisoned by unknowns, tortured senseless)
Victim (guy kidnapped and gets slowly "altered" by his kidnappers)

Absentia (women's husband disappeared 7 years ago, as she's filing to have him declared dead weird **** starts happening, worth checking out)
Apartment 143 (ghost haunts father and his two daughters, they hire team comes to help)
Messages Deleted (script guy wrote is getting acted out in real life)
Audition (crazy japanese ****)
Them (French couple get terrorized by unknown perps)
The Ceremony (guy finds book, goes crazy, don't remember much else - watched long time ago)
Kill Kate Malone (peeps buy wooden box with demon inside that grants wishes, **** goes badly)
Burnt Offerings (1976 classic, haunted mansion, burgess meredith is in it)
The Last Man on Earth (I Am Legend but with Vincent Price in 1964)
Stigmata (Patricia Arquette...i guess?)
Wilderness (juveniles dropped off in woods to work together - they start dying)
Session 9 (spooky asylum getting cleaned for asbestos, guy discovers some old tapes - saw this a long time ago and don't remember much)
V/H/S (worth a look, somewhat entertaining)
The Traveler (lol val kilmer)
ATM (worth a view but stupid)
Slither (creatures are taking over people - bodysnatchers-esque)

Signed up for 30 day free trial after a hiatus when they raised prices a while back. Excited about a few movies/TV Shows...a couple of which I have seen but are really excellent.

A few in the Queue:

1. Headhunters (watched last night - loved it)
2. Trollhunter
3. Archer
4. Jiro Dreams of Sushi
5. Bad Boys (Sean Penn - seen it but liked it)
6. Oldboy (one of my all time favs - highly recommend)
7. I saw the Devil (another Korean film - twisted but very entertaining)
8. Knuckle
9. Dead Snow (very decent low budget horror/dark comedy - German/Subtitled)
10. Survivorman
11. The Wild and Wonderful Whites (A complete train wreck but hard not to watch)

not sure this has been discussed itt, but how does everyone browse through movies to watch?

Ever since Netflix changed thier website to the current AIDS scheme, I never even go there anymore. I used to visit the site a couple times a month, to look thru the genres. I would go to list mode, and sort by star rating to get ideas to add to my queue.

Can't you watch just like one season and then re-evaluate if and when Netflix gets it back or you want to buy the DVDs or HBO Go or whatever?

There's a big first-world problem now with watching old non-serialized TV shows. I'd like to see what shows like Cheers, I Love Lucy, All in the Family, Family Ties, Three's Company, etc. were all about (have seen a little of each obviously), but I'm not going to marathon each one for all 100-200 episodes in two weeks like everybody thinks you have to do in this day and age. We need some sort of guide that advises you on a handful of key episodes of each classic show that you can watch to get a sense of them. A mix of both the "important" and all-time great episodes, plus a sampling of the solid B+/A- ones since the all-time greats are not always representative of the show as a whole.

Also, I watched The Machinist, which is in the same vein, kinda like wtf is going on in this movie, but it all comes together in the end. Plus it's got the holy **** that's really Batman thing going for it, too.

Total newb question.

I have a 46 inch Samsung LCD from 2007 just laying around because I'm too cheap to get cable. Want to hook it up to a device that will allow me to use Netflix on it.

What's the best device? Not looking to spend more than 100 dollars on the device.

I've got an apple tv that is ok. Netflix is kind of annoying since it doesn't autoplay the next episode of a tv show though. Roku2 might be good, but I haven't tried one yet. Idk how much the apple tv's are.. but roku2's can definitely be found under $100.

The best device will be an xbox 360, because it will also let you stream things like mlb.tv in season, plus you get the free not-as-good streaming services included. I doubt you could find one under $100, but it's possible.

Just did a quick search on Craigs in my area and did see some under 100 bucks, but most had some issues.
One guy was selling just the console, no games, wires, or controllers for 70.

If you're not interested in ever playing games on it, you can probably find one with a busted disc reader for cheap. You'll need the wires to hook it up to your tv and either the xbox remote or a controller.

you have to purchase xbox live membership (~$60/year)

if you want to go the xbox route, and don't care about playing games, search craiglist and you can probably find one for cheap. some of the older ones had a common "disc read error" problem (not to be confused with the red ring of death) where the drive wouldn't recognize games but the console itself still works.
