What I don't understand is why he is so reluctant to just say "yes, my dad is very generous and looks out for me". Instead, he just makes up ridiculous lies, and when he gets caught in a lie it turns to "none of your business". If I won the lottery and didn't have to work I wouldn't be ashamed to admit it.

He's gone too far with the "daddy doesn't pay my bills" story to back down from that now. But like Alobar says, he doesn't want to flat out lie if possible. That's always when "none of your business" comes out. It's obviously his allowance from dad, or grandpa, or mom, or some other source of his bills being paid for him every month that is effectively charity.
