I live a block from the Taylor. I don't know if you have gone and looked at any of these, but the Taylor is really nice. Glasshouse is around the same price point, but the interior wasn't as nice. Both of these apartments are going to be slightly older than most, but that is generally the case with

I've never been in the Skyhouse, One Dallas Center, or 1400 Hi Line. But a couple thoughts. I would not recommend living downtown. Close to the AAC is pretty good if you are into sports. The Stars and Mavericks games are fun and Stars tickets can be pretty cheap. The North End is over there and is probably the cheapest apartment complex in Uptown. They are pretty ****ty compared to the rest of Uptown, but by no means horrible. I would personally be living there if I didn't have 2 other roommates. They don't have 3 bedrooms.

There is also the West Village area which is pretty cool, but there really aren't too many bars in the area and you probably won't want to walk to the bars from there. Not that it is a bad area, just a long walk.

There are a couple Post properties on McKinney (street with all of the bars) that are in a great location for everything.

These are all in the Uptown area. Addison is ok, but I wouldn't live there. People recommending the suburbs are crazy IMO. They are great for raising a family, but I don't think that is what you are going for.

Feel free to PM me. This was more of just a rambling data dump.

This is the one at the Taylor that is open.

wtf is it with having to walk through the bathroom to get to the closet, is this some weird texas thing i have to get used to?

Thanks for the heads up 1400 highline, dont really want to live with the homeless.

Skyhouse looks legit online, but the only one they have open is a 697sq/ft one with a fake wall for the bedroom, could try and move in then upgrade but i hate moving.

I haven't read all the replies but I'd recommend looking into Austin Ranch. It's near tollway and Parker
Easy drive to work and great pool scene. The vibe there is much better than elsewhere in that there is more greenery and such. Doesn't feel like Dallas.
You are also close enough to several restaurants and bars.

Went and checked out The Taylor, Skyhouse, Glasshouse and 1400 highline.

Highline had the best floor plans but the area is nasty, skyhouse had a rooftop pool on the 24th floor which was amazing but tiny apartments and tiny balcony. Glasshouse was the nicest, but only had two units open in the next 45 days and they were sucky.

Taylor had great floor plans, awesome pool area, with a roof top party deck, and the one i looked at has a 12x10 balcony that looks right at the downtown skyline. Just put a deposit down on it. Only problem is its not free until July 10 and i start the 8th,

OP,

I'm new, so it won't let me send you an IM. If you want, contact me and I can give you the low down on Big D. I've lived here since the 90s.

I'm not sure why you want to spend $1,400 on an apartment. One of the best features of Dallas is the rent is really economical. You could easily find a space under $900, a really nice space too. For example, the apartments over at the Shops at Legacy in Plano are nice and not that expensive. The Post apartments in Addison are not that expensive. I think you can get a studio apartment there for under $700. You could walk to work from there too.

Sounds like you're already committed to the Taylor. Never heard of that before, maybe it's new? I haven't been apartment hunting in like 5 years, though. One word of advice that I will pass along. Do NOT drink and drive in Addison. Seriously, if you're even .001% over the legal limit they will arrest you, and you'll spend the night in jail. They are notorious for random stops along Belt Line Road any time after 10 pm. If you've had more than one drink and you're anywhere in Addison proper, take a cab or Uber. Seriously, it's not worth it.

Thanks for the HU.

I saw a ton of cheaper places, but the post properties are kinda grimy, ****ty carpets, formica counters, old white appliances, etc.

And i want to be in uptown, hence the higher cost of the bat.

I liked the taylor becuase its 15+ floors, brand new (i think built in 2012), and really well finished, real hardwood floors, granite counters, new SS appliances, city view from balcony on a high floor, etc. I am really trying to push my cousin to move in with me because the 1 beds i like are 2k but they have amazing 2 beds for 2600, but he likes in addison circle and doesnt wasnt to move more into the city.

Will try and PM for the lowdown though

That's understandable. From an amenities standpoint, the Taylor is probably better. However, there are places that have been built more recently. For example, there is a place off of Ave K and 15th street in Plano that was built less than a year ago. It's above a restaurant and a couple of other shops, and it's literally less than 200 yards from the DART rail (which would have you in Uptown in under 25 min). I'm not sure if it's apartments or condominiums. That's another thought. Working in the financial sector, are you not better off purchasing a condominium over paying rent? I know it's not that simple, but I think you could find a workable situation if you were inclined to go that route.

Also, the Uptown area is a better area to visit, imo. For example, there is one rinky dink WalMart family neighborhood within a 7-8 mile radius. There's a Target across the way, east of US-75, at Cityplace, but that Target is actually really ghetto. There's an Albertson's at Lemmon & McKinney, but that place is always crowded because it's the only supermarket within 5 miles. There's a Whole Foods further north on Lemmon (I think, it might be Maple). Regardless, it's more expensive, more crowded, and in my opinion, not as clean or nice. On the other hand, if you lived somewhere like Plano, Frisco, Allen, or even Las Colinas (if you wanted to live in another direction), there are lots of options & less traffic. More health clubs in those areas too.

All of that said, if you've lived in downtown Chicago, then any amount of traffic/congestion in Uptown will seem like child's play. So, you'd probably do just fine if you have your heart set on the Uptown area. Also, not that there's anything wrong with it (Seinfeld voice), but it should be pointed out that the Uptown area is the gayborhood area of Dallas; particularly on Cedar Springs from north of Oak Lawn to Wycliff. It's also the trendier area of Dallas, although there are several other areas too (Lower Greenville has been revitalized in the last 12-18 mo), but if a guy offers to buy you a drink at a bar in Uptown, it's most likely not just because he's really friendly.

WP sir.

I used to live in chicago and then i moved to the burbs ~2 years ago. Loved it for a few months and have regretted the decision ever since, hence why i want to be back in the middle of it. Job will be in Addison and i have family in frisco, neither of those areas are interesting to me.

And although the numbers may be overpaying to the area, if i were to get a place like that in river north it would be 3k+ easily, so i still feel like im getting a break.

Didnt think about the grocery store thing, and they still havent approved my application. I have great credit and income well over what they would want to see, but they said they run background checks and i have a felony charge from when i was 18, so idk if theyre going to let me in.

The Albertson's at McKinney isn't an Albertson's anymore, it's a Minyard's. Whole Foods on Lemmon is 1.5 miles from there. Another Whole Foods is being built on McKinney near the Crescent, 1 mile from Minyard's. The Neighborhood Walmart is a full grocery store, and the Target you mentioned has groceries too. There are three Krogers within 2.5 miles of Lemmon and McKinney. That makes seven grocery stores within 2.5 miles of the Taylor. And there's probably some I'm missing. I don't think OP will have trouble finding food.

If you're looking for gyms, Uptown has an LA Fitness, Gold's, Trophy Fitness, Diesel Fitness, Title Boxing Club, and I think there are two Crossfit facilities east of 75 (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Of course, Dallas does have a widely hated 5 cent tax on plastic bags now.

Lukin,

I hear what you're saying, and I didn't mean to imply that the Uptown area was without grocery shopping options. I didn't know the Albertson's had changed to a Minyard's or that a new Whole Foods was being built. Thank you for adding that information to the conversation.

I was speaking in comparative terms. For example, take the intersection of Park Blvd and the North Dallas Tollway in Plano. On the southeast corner there is a Super WalMart; it's so large you can probably fit the Uptown WalMart Neighborhood grocery store inside of it three times over. Directly across the street there is a Super Target. Which I think if everyone was being honest, once you take one step inside that Plano Target you'll never want to step foot inside the Cityplace Target again.

You can also drive about a quarter-mile to a very large Tom Thumb at Parkwood & Parker Rd. Directly across the street, they just built a new Eatzi's, and directly across the Tollway is a Super Kroger. In my opinion, the West Plano area is nicer than the Uptown area from a safety and living standpoint. In addition, there is less congestion, and there are more retail stores & other necessities within a closer proximity. Not to mention, there are more available parking spaces in the suburbs than you can find in the Uptown area.

We have Whataburgers all over the DFW area, but HEBs only extend as far north as Waco. Outside of that you have to travel further south to Austin, San Antonio, and I think Houston has HEBs, as well. I agree with you, though, HEB is a very nice grocery store.

And if you get on the tollway service road south and make the U-Turn to the Tollway service road north at Belt Line, you'll have an In-N-Out just a couple miles from your office. You'll understand what these directions mean when you get here if it seems confusing.

I don't see Uptown as being all that great. Definitely not worth the money. Agree with previous comments that one of the great things about Dallas is that it's affordable to live.

No way. Frisco is a great suburb that has been well developed but in terms of incomes it's nowhere close to Southlake or the Park Cities.

I haven't checked out many of the places there, but I hear The Vitruvian is nice. The Verona is nice, and has a pretty sick 5/5 PLO game on Thursday.

There is a 2/5 game almost every night in Addison also.

Addison isn't a typical suburb. It isn't a place to raise a family. It is mostly young people with lots of restaurants and night life. Seems like a no brainer to me.

HEB is on the southern outskirts of DFW actually (of course we have Central Market too). There are HEBs in Burleson, Ennis, Waxahachie, and Cleburne.

I'm not sure why this would be relevant in the city that arguably has the best burger joints in the country. There are literally dozens of burger places that produce better burgers than In-n-Out in DFW. If you feel the need to get fast food burgers then I have no choice but to feel sorry for you.
