Some people think that Sandy and Danny were dead, that they drowned in the beginning and the rest of the movie was all fantasy. That theory would explain the flying car at the end. Not that I agree with this theory but I found it interesting.

I forget what year I was in school but I remember our teacher giving us a creative writing assignment, specifying that we couldn't end it by saying "it all was all a dream".

so yeah I agree.

This doesn’t really follow, but people chiding ex machina like it’s an auto-failure are pretty silly.

Stephen King critiques like to blame the endings.
