I very much hope that the deleted flight data on the captain's home flight simulator is relevant and not a complete dead end.

And not to be too "tin foil hatty", media was making a big deal about the fact that the captain and co-pilot had not specifically asked to fly together on this flight. That doesn't necessarily mean that they weren't working together on this. The plan might have been to just wait until they had an overnight flight scheduled together before they executed it.

How many times, if ever, had they flown together before?

Any evidence they'd called or texted each other before? Or any form of communication before? Like did they even know each other?

I don't know how big the Malaysian Airlines pilot crop is.

It's absurdly unlikely they were working together since they have nothing in common. Very different ages, one a Muslim and one an atheist, etc. And since the lead theory right now is the plane ditching in the ocean, they obviously aren't going to be working together on a plan like that. Finally, there's no reason to complicate the scenario by having two pilots who want to hijack a plane instead of one. Occam's Razor. Having both pilots in on it doesn't explain anything as there are plenty of scenarios for how the other pilot was incapacitated.

The wiki on Swiss Air is worth a read. The aircraft broke into over 2 million pieces when it impacted the ocean.
Thanks for the wiki link. I am reading further and see that both the CVR and FDR stopped recording over five minutes before impact due to loss of power, which is an extremely crucial time period for investigators. Does anyone know if this is still the case in this day and age? (W0x0f?) Kind of odd not to have a battery backup system in place.

The Prime Minister of Australia just announced in parliament that debris has been spotted by a satellite and a P3 has been dispatched to check it out.

Tony Abbott says satellites might have found parts of MH370.

Doubt the Australian P.M is saying this unless they are confident.

Wacko F** news channel is sticking with an expert (an ex-general) who continues to claim he has a tip that the plane landed specifically in western Pakistan! This is in spite of USA intelligence narrowing the search to a spot in the far south Indian Sea and in spite of common knowledge that western Pakistan has got to be the most watched area in the world by the USA. That channel is an embarrassment.

I never said it was likely, of course it's not, I was just making the point that the fact that they didn't ask to fly together doesn't make the chance that they did this together 0, which is what some experts were contending.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority is holding a press conference at 3:30pm AEST (11:30pm US EST, I think). Seems like they're fairly confident they found something.

W0X0F thank you so very much for all the comments in this thread, this thread easily could have just been sewage, but instead it was pretty informative and actually the best way I found to keep up on info.

Good news! Can't wait to hear the explanation once they figure it out

The uncertainty factor was making me very uneasy even as a relatively frequent flyer

We're probably far away from knowing anything and we still may never know.

It took years and millions of dollars to find the black boxes from the Air France flight. It's also likely that the interesting info like the CVR from the first part of the flight won't be available/recoverable.

it's also not even confirmed to be parts of 370, or even parts of a plane at all.

so the debris is down by perth. after 13 days of floating, where would this mean the plane would have landed. in any of the possible arcs?

Why did they introduce Richard Quest as "CNN's aviation expert"? Did some quick googling and couldn't find any evidence of aviation expertise.

I suspect "off Perth" in this instance could easily mean "3000km west of Perth".
