Which plane(s) do you fly?
It's okay Most of my 'actual' (as opposed to simulator) experience is in general aviation by teaching aspiring airline pilots. So I flew a bunch of GA airplanes. Besides that I have some experience in the sim on various airplanes big and small but I'm not a 10k+hr airline pilot on 737's for example . I do/did also teach a fair amount of groundschool in Europe about airplane systems etc., based on the bigger planes mostly. So just trying to say that in the rare event I talk about the airplane systems or make a statement about them, I either looked it up, asked my boyfriend (who does fly the big jets every day and as an instructor as well) for confirmation, or used theoretical knowledge about airplane systems in general like ACARS, FMS etc Although most of those things here are answered by our real pro.

^that. Unless it crashes on top of the buoy the 'shockwaves' will be hardly noticeable by the time it hits it.
bacterium<elephant or crashing plane's heat<volcano

i know this will sound absolutely ******ed, but...

A few times i imagined i was on a plane that was nose diving to the ground. Instead of sitting there screaming i thought i could peer out the window until relatively low over the ocean, then open the door and jump out to try and survive.

I know i know, ******ed right, too much movies? But is it possible? To get out of the plane i mean, irrespective of if i survive the plunge into the sea.

Hitting water at that speed is like hitting concrete. You have basically the same chance of surviving a jump out of a plane over land. Not to mention that even if you some how survived the impact you would probably be knocked out and drown.

Unless on the ground, or the plane is decompressed completely, the doors can't be opened. I will disregard the plunge because yeah you will die probably by getting sucked into the engine/hitting the tail, hitting the water haha

So for those proposing advanced plot:

Whoever it was was sophisticated enough to radio in all ok, and turn off transponder and acars in an ideal international boundary area.

However, these sophisticated people forgot about or did not know about the immersat satellite beacon which allows hourly tracking.

Is there any way this immersat beacon could have been tampered with to provide false data?

If you know about it, why not just turn it off? Seems easier than to transmit false data. It seems pretty plausible they hadn't thought of this option, absolutely no one seemed to know about these pings until this happened.

For some reason I assumed it couldn't be turned off.

The plane was stolen. Every person on board was killed.
REFILLED IN SAHARA DESERT.
THAT'S WHEN THEY YANKED TRANSPONDER. Being painted and filled with nerve gas as we speak. Maybe 20 man job. We will be attacked with that 787-400 by weeks end. Most likely London. That's as far as they will get it I bet. Be ducking scared. These people are scary.

They didn't know. I actually read somewhere that inmarsat offers the option to use vhf of satellite based, and Malaysian didn't opt for the satellite system. This apparently didn't mean that inmarsat could still detect it through satellite, or receive the 'pings'.

EDIT: source

Just curious, what's the deal with people using stolen passports? Why don't the passports get flagged as being stolen when people try to use them?

they do get flagged. These passports were also put in the database, it's just a security flaw that Malaysian didn't crosscheck the database.

777 A guy at the card table said it could be one pilot. Killing other pilot and depressurize. To simple. Than steal a good transponder to switch signal. GAS TRANSPONDER YARDS. This is not my theory but simple plan.

I don't think it's easy to turn off. I read somewhere that it might even be necessary to climb down through some door or something. But it's still easier than transmitting false data.
