quick google says:
for type 1, men have a 5.9% chance of passing it on to his kid. for women under 25 it's 4%, after 25 it's 1%,

for fatass type 2s it's up to 50% but problems with women from self-induced diabetes > problems from having it

Diabetes, but that's not fun either, since it will ultimately lead to heart disease.

The funny thing is, probably half the people posting in this thread already have pre-diabetes but don't know it.

Every single person alive should be checking their a1c level ($9 test from walmart). If it's above 5%, you are pre-diabetic. Doctors consider > 6.5% diabetic, which is insane. Should be at least 6% or lower.

A cheap meter is $18, and you can test post-meals.

Below 100 = safe
110 = getting high
120 = light damage starts to begin
140 = lots of damage starts to begin
200+ = what doctors consider diabetic

Ya, it's pretty controllable in the short term, but years of high blood sugar levels and glycation = serious disease down the road. I've been researching health and nutrition for the last 3 months and there is almost nothing correlated more closely to health that I've found than blood sugar levels.

z28, you can also request that your doctor run an a1c blood test during an annual physical. A lot of insurance plans pay for 1 physical a year so it's a good time to just get it checked with your regular bloodwork.

I think a lot of people itt are young and still stick-thin weaklings but there are certainly some fatties who are pre-diabetic or maybe even diabetic and don't know it yet. Of course being fat isn't necessary. You can be thin and eat horribly and probably still develop diabetes.

I know plenty of thin people with normal BMI's that are type II or pre-diabetic. You should definitely not use weight as sole indicator.

Yea and there are thin people with heart disease, but let's be real here, most diabetics are fattays.

Not for Type 1s. Nothing to do with weight.

I was taking about type 2, obviously. But even factoring that, overall my statement still probably stands.

It must suck for Type 1s that Type 2 is becoming such an epidemic now that nobody cares about the Type 1s anymore.

Get a clue OP. ban /end thread
Thank goodness you got here first. Diabetes itself does not have complications. Unmanaged diabetes does.

People that don't make insulin themselves (t1 diabetes ldo) just have to match their insulin to what they eat. They can eat anything they bloody well please.

AFAIK in the last few years of his life he never took the insulin and was fine; the symptoms of diabetes were pretty much absent completely.

LOL @ the OP's arguments
At UTSW there is a huge push of fat-related theory of type 2 DM, you'll probably see the literature pushed towards exercise instead of drugs/insulin to treat diabetes in the future.

True but I don't agree with your prediction. The drug companies don't make money by encouraging people to eat right and exercise. It is the drug companies with the big budgets 'educating' the doctors to prescribe more drugs.

So basically the OP is saying he'd rather play Russian roulette with only one empty chamber than have diabetes. Classy.

I'm sure if you had leukemia you'd be knee-deep in pussy.

Actually, to make the poll better you should have used this disease. Something like 80% of high school girls said they wouldn't date a guy that had it.

Spoiler:
Epilepsy
