How long does it take a typical 8min mile guy to run 4 miles?

I'm trying to gauge how much the donuts would actually slow him down.

shouldnt be too difficult, if i was getting 2.5:1 odds, id expect the completion time to be around 40 minutes. at 50-55 minutes 1:1 seems fair, at 60, it should be at least 1:1.5

Also, is he allowed to eat the donuts while he's running?
with a 10-15 minute break in between, you can consider it a bit faster than running 4 miles continuously ... i would say take his 4 mile time and subtract 2 minutes.

nice, the KKC!

My friend Chris helped start this a few years ago.

2.5 : 1 seems like way too good of odds for the guy trying to do it.

would be a decent bet if you have him consume the creme filled ones, or alter the rules to not allow any puking prior to the completion of the 4th mile. So easy if he can puke and just continue running, i would push myself hard after consuming the donuts and hope to puke so that i could finish the rest of the running with ease.

The regular glazed are pretty easy to power down. I'm 220lbs and around the 8 minute mile mark as well when i run, and i think i could do this pretty easily if given a full hour, and don't have to worry about puking and losing the bet.

2.5:1 against? Those odds suck. I'd go with even 1:1 odds in a friendly bet.

Where are the miles going to be run? I'd try and get the racer to run a street course, as these will be tougher than track miles... although that also opens the door to cheating.

Make him down a quart of milk along with the donuts and you have a challenge. Assuming he can't puke of course.

Consumption of water is allowed at any point -- while running or eating.

Puking is authorized but not encouraged, and intentional puking (finger down the throat) will result in a loss. Whatever happens after the finish line is crossed doesn't matter, so he can puke all he wants at that point, intentionally or otherwise.
If you can puke, this is so easy.

Are you allowed to light up some bud to give yourself the munchies?

Run 2 miles - 16 minutes
Eat 12 donuts - 20 minutes
Sprint 1/4-1/2 mile as fast as you can, massive puke - 2 minutes
Rest/wash out mouth with water, recouperate - 2 minutes
Jog 2 miles - 20 minutes, easy.

The key to downing mass quantities of KK is smashing them so that you can swallow them quicker.

I used to get ******ed side pain if I ate anything before a run , let alone 12 donuts.

change it to 50 mins and I think a 1:1 bet is fair without puking allowed.

This exact event is run yearly at NC State. Last year ~500 people completed the challenge in under an hour. I believe the event was capped at 3000 entrants.

You guys are severely underestimating how long it takes to run those miles. His first two miles would not be 16 minutes, it would be 18 or almost 20 mins. His second two would be even worse, 20-24.

Also, the guy who suggested he sprint 1/2 mile in 2 mins: ridiculous. There is no way a guy who runs a legit 8-min mile can sprint 1/2 a mile in 2 mins, it's gonna be 3-4 or worse.

How good is this guy at eating? That's pretty key here.

No the eating part is irrelevant.

A glazed krispy kreme donut is like 85% air. You can smash it up into a ball smaller than a golf ball. The total amount of food consumed while high in calories is not high in bulk.

If you finish each mile in 10 minutes, you can finish this with 10 minutes to spare.

People talking about 20 minutes to eat these donuts are being insane. If it takes you 20 minutes to eat a dozen glazed donuts in a challenge, then you have no business doing food prop bets.

2.5:1 sound like fair odds?
If you can run 4 miles in 45 minutes normally, this is cake. A dozen Krispy Kremes are nothing.

Maybe you guys are badass eaters, but a dozen damn donuts sounds like a lot to me. The guy isn't an expert eater or anything, but he can put food away if necessary. I also think he doesn't have a tremendously high discomfort threshold.

I can say with near certainty that you could offer me a grand to eat those dozen donuts in 20 minutes and I couldn't do it.

They are like bite size. A dozen wouldn't be easy, but I regularly could eat 6 of them without any issues. They have no substance in them. I guarantee I could eat a dozen of them in 5 minutes without any trouble. However, I doubt I could make it 4 miles in 55 minutes, even without donuts.

Make it real donuts, not Krispy Kremes.

I've done a dozen donut bet in 30 minutes before, and couldn't freaking move for about an hour.

You can walk 4 miles in 55 minutes. You can't walk?

I can't understand why people keep saying this. Do you people ever eat donuts... or is all you do sit around and eat donuts? Twelve of those things would not sit well in the ol' stomach while you're trying to run two miles. It's not like he's got to run 100 yards after he finishes.

Obviously the donuts are the important part. If he can eat those in a reasonable amount of time, he could probably walk the last two miles.

Puking is allowed after the finish line, but not before. Read OP's responses.

I dunno what kind of crazy speedwalking superman you are, but 13 minutes a mile is not accurate. 15 minute miles are still fast, and 20 is more accurate for a normal walking speed. It might be doable but its far from easy to walk this fast.
