I thought it was a good documentary but a lot of things tilted me:
Some spoilers below.
I really dislike the whole "This is competitive video gaming". Uh, no it's not. Playing a retro game to get a high score is not competitive gaming. Playing against other people in leagues is competitive gaming. Playing against a computer is just pattern memorization (and a bit of luck if the computer randomly generates some obstacles).
Also the referee saying that retro games require more skill and faster reaction times is just straight bull****. Try playing CS 1.6, or starcraft with the best in the world.
The people in this movie are incredibly sad, they're all stuck in the 80s. Playing their Donkey Kongs and Pacman games and getting high scores like it means anything. That one guy Brian Kuh was the biggest loser I'd ever seen. Not only does he swing from billy's nuts, he quit his job and stuff so he could play DK all day, everyday, and he still sucks at it.
"If anyone is interested..there's a donkey kong kill screen that might be coming up in a few minutes." lol
Saw this movie a couple yrs ago and really liked it. Just like evryone else I felt bad for the main character and thought the hotsauce guy was a douche. But I had no idea untill reading this thread that the hotsauce dude came back and broke the record Live in front of an audience. That's pretty badass

I've had this sitting on my laptop since this thread started and still haven't watched it. Can't wait, but can never find the time. I need to find the time now.

Its about like reading the whole Doug Lee Toolbox thread.
Totally worth it.
I worked with a guy who's pretty big in the retro-gamer scene a few years ago. He is one of the few people to hold the Pacman perfect-game title and apparently he helped develop a lot of the end-game patterns that are used in competition.
pure geek
True. But all the other guys in the film seem like big time losers.
Yeah, put me next to Micheal Jordan on the basketball court and I'd seem like a pretty big loser too. Anyway, who watches that documentary and doesn't just fast forward past the parts without Billy Mitchell?
