I cross posted this in the EDF Chicago thread but here goes.

I'm moving to Chicago in the next month or so, and I'm wondering where to live.

Relevant info: I have almost no experience in Chicago. I visited a girl there once but didn't spend much time in the actual city. It's basically like I haven't been there.

I can live anywhere. My job involves a lot of working from home/travel to other cities. There's no real home base or office in Chicago itself.

As far as rent I would like to be in a 2 br place for around 2000-2200 a month.

I'm looking for place where you can walk around to shops bars restaurants v easily, lots of access to nice parks for dog walks, blah blah. Something like Boston's back bay or Harvard/Davis Square for reference.

I hear good things about Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Wicker Park. I know nothing though.

Thoughts?

I have a friend who lives in Lincoln park and its pretty awesome. Its a super short ride on the red line to downtown. The area is really nice, and the lake is right there, with a **** ton of parks and crap. Theres also a ton of really good places to eat in the area.

That said I dunno enough about the city as a whole to say anything. Ive just spent a few weeks in the lincoln park area and thought it was pretty awesome.

What is your job Daryn?

I'm working with a clinical trial for a medical device company. I'll be traveling to hospitals all over the Midwest.

I may have posted about this a few months ago but I found the most awesome, hole in the wall mechanic ever.

He's a tiny little mexican dude with a thick accent i can barely understand, and the most honest mechanic I've ever met. The first time I came in, I knew I had a torn CV joint and it needed to be replaced, he was like "you'd be wasting money, mang. Buy a new axle, it's cheaper and it comes with 2 brand new CV joints already."

I looked up average costs for that repair and it was like 150-200 bucks range. I got the axle replaced, a new tire, and an oil change - the bill was 240. He charged me 80 dollars for the axle replacement. I felt like I was ripping him off, and I totally wished I'd found him years ago. Woulda saved thousands.

Daryn,

I'd want to live in Wrigleyville personally.

I suppose the crowds would get tedious after a while, but I love the neighborhood.
