Answering both of these at once.

One of the reason it didn't escalate is that it got deleted before it could. In my mind, that's a feature, not a bug. Right or wrong, my intent was to cut things off before they went bad.

The AK thread obviously doesn't have the same super slippery slope that a racially charged issue like this does. Maybe I'm a bit jaded from reading the thread in politics- but all I can see when looking at even the most innocent post is a giant ****storm. Given that there's another, more appropriate outlet for that type of conversation, I think it's reasonable to lean towards being quick to delete (but I will admit that even within that framework I still went too far).

Finally-

YouFaiil-

You may recall that you were permabanned once and given a reprieve (and I will eat my hat if this is your first account and you haven't been nuked before). The more you inch towards proving that decision unwise, the more likely it is that somebody makes a correction. I actually think you've recently improved as a poster- but you're being a giant pest here and making the same point over and over again. Your feelings are noted, but let it go.

****, maybe Dids will ban me for not clarifying every one of my posts as being from a Canadian.

Edit: I kid! It really is annoying to have a long debate about an OP asking about how he should deal with his landlord only to find out 200 posts in that the OP is living in China and the Landlord is the local party leader.

Respectfully, this is incorrect. The conversation had completely moved on and no one was talking about it. You can't see into the future and OOT isn't Politics so your experience with what happens in that **** hole aren't a very valid yard stick to use in OOT. And what is the danger with waiting until it actually does go bad, on the off chance that your third eye isn't perfect and the conversation just moves on to the next topic? Or letting posters in the thread let newbs know that they are over a line instead of just deleting stuff so no one has the opportunity to learn where the line is?
07-24-2013 , 05:13 PM
Agree with Kerowo. I think the more appropriate thing is to wait and see if it goes over the line, then if it happens say that you're nuking any more posts about the topic, and then move on.

Maybe thats more work, but it doesn't seem like it since most of the time the topic will just end without needing any further action.

Dids,

This is my first and only account.

Noted, I'll drop it.

kero et al are right, Dids is wrong. Your feelings are not an infallible guide to future reality, Dids. Maybe one day this will finally occur to you.

Usually we feed our cats and then feed our dog when they're done (who gets to clean the cats' dishes out) but my dog is sick and the vet said I can't feed her for a day. She looked really confused when we picked up the cats dishes instead of letting her lick them clean and more confused when she found her bowl empty. Now she keeps sitting by her dish looking at it sadly.
07-24-2013 , 07:20 PM
Better looking at sadly than barking in outrage like my Sister's dogs do whenever it gets close to feeding time...
07-24-2013 , 07:28 PM
True. She learned pretty early that whining/barking for food got her no food and removed from the kitchen.

I am curious, are Indian (dot) dudes attracted to big black chic booties?

So I know that San Jose has always had some street walker hooker action, but it has been over a decade since I've personally seen some chic walking and said 'lol, definite hooker'.

Lately near my work (near the airport), there has been multiple big (bigggg) bootie black hookers walking around the area. Totally ldo. One of the motels they hang out at was actually in the news in a sting not long back.

But my question is....who the **** are they servicing? The entire area these days is either white tech guys or indian (dot) tech guys.

Now, I'm not saying that either of these groups are not interested in black chics, I'm all for it, but I'm talking bigggggggg booties here. Cottage cheese on top of ham hocks in some cases and they are just not attractive....at all.

It's bizarro hookers for sure, especially considering you can drive around the corner and bang multiple smoking hot korean hookers in a nice safe condo.

If a topic in a thread gets shut down too soon, people get mad. If a mod doesn't shut it down and just says, "Okay, if you're going to keep talking about this, make sure it doesn't get too political," people freak out: "OH NO YOU DON'T OWN ME DON'T TELL ME WHAT I CAN AND CAN'T POST YOU NAZI MOD."

If a thread gets shut down because of too many crappy posts, people get mad and say, "just delete those posts and let the thread continue." If a mod deletes posts to keep a thread open, people get mad and say, "posts are my property and if they do not violate some site wide rule, nobody has the right to delete them."

OOT is a really good forum compared to most other high traffic forums on 2p2. This is a combination of having a decent number of good posters and having mods who allow people to have fun but can be harsh when they have to be, especially with posters who are really stupid, and those who just want to cause ****.

Sometimes mods err on the side of being to strict. An occasional bout of overmodding is a small price to pay for keeping OOT from turning into an intolerable mess like BBV, BB4Life or NVG.

False dichotomy.
