Most of these veggies used in green shakes are inherently bland...with some having a hint of bitter taste. If you think celery is overpowering try broccoli lol.
Don't use more than 3 stalks of celery in any given shake.
Cucumbers dilute any taste (I use 1/2 cucumber with peel in mine).
Fruits such as apples and pears with skin are best.
Save the berries and more sugary stuff for a shake later in the day with vanilla flavored almond milk.

Adding up to five moderately sized slices of ginger can mask some of the vegetable taste but does make it a little spicy.

Also add a few ounces of water and a handful of ice.

Just my .02

Any interesting way i found to peel a Kiwi..just by chance.
I had frozen a couple Kiwis just to keep them as i was leaving for a few days and didnt want them to spoil.
I took them out of the freezer and began to just rinse them off for whatever reason.
As the skin thawed it just rubbed right off very quickly, tossed the peeled kiwi in the Blentec frozen...less ice.

question: do people juice every day or like once every few days and then leave it in the fridge for consumption in the next couple of days?

also the thing that comes out is HOT and BOILED? o.O

I always always blend fresh...I've only stored my green shake once and it didn't keep well.
It never comes out hot, more like room temp. Gotta add ice to make it cold.

I make a smoothie every morning

I blend frozen, frozen/fresh or fresh and it doesn't come out hot. Most everything I use is stored in the fridge so already cool.

I bought the Ninja from Costco with the $25 off coupon. I try to blend in the flax seeds but the seeds won't blend. I also tried the frozen berries mix and it doesn't really grind the seeds there either. But aside from that so far so good!

I've made this so far:

Kale
Baby Spinach
Whole kiwis with peels (or frozen berries)
Flax seeds
Kefir

That used to be my issue but I found (and it seems so easy once you do it) blend the problematic items 1st and for a longer amount of time.

ie. put in the frozen berries and water/juice/yogurt and get that going up to the highest speed for 30s-1min, then add in the other items that blend easier/faster, should help improve the texture and consistency.

Or you could strain it through cheesecloth or a nutmilk bag.

you're really supposed to mill flax seeds, not blend them. i don't even know if a blendtec or vitamix could sufficiently destroy the shell on all the seeds. I just buy milled flax seed from costco. $6 for a huge bag of it

with a mortar & pestle I assume.

but the real answer is you don't, you buy already milled flax seed.

I threw some hulled seeds into my first mix with my Vitamix, and it was smooth, so I have to assume it crushed the seeds appropriately.

You'd probably have to let it go a little longer to be sure, though.

I mean if it can crush berry/kiwi seeds it can certainly crush seeds, right? Berry seeds are even smaller, IMO.

Got the Vitamix 5200 today from New life Expo today in NYC. I went to the expo specifically to buy the machine because people say that if you track down the demos you can get a couple of dollars off. It cost $450 plus tax, i got the 64oz container the recipe book and the 32oz dry container with it. Admission to the expo was $18.

Had my mind set on either the 5200 or Professional series for awhile, but almost got the new touchscreen Blendtec. It is $500 plus $25 shipping, but decided against it when they told me it was back ordered between two weeks and a month. The Vitamix is a better all around machine, but the new Blendtec is ****ing gorgeous imo.

Overall, Im real happy with the purchase!!

Nice man!

On a side note I've been reading about the benefits of hemp hearts. Hemp apparently is very good for you. Question I have is could you potentially test + for a work pee test for THC? I've googled and read up but there seems to be conflicting accounts. Hemp contains zero THC to some THC to you could test + if you eat them everyday. Idk someone educate me please.

If I want to keep the fiber, is a blender the best option?

hemp has been around a lot longer than smoking bowls of it. rope, that rigged the ships who discovered the new world, were made from hemp.

so no, you won't flunk a drug test because of hemp hearts.

Pretty much.

A juicer extracts the juice, which is basically just nutrients and sugars. A blender mashes the entire food down into pulp, so everything is still there, just mush.

so he wont flunk a drug test because they used hemp on old ships? this is the most random way to give a non answer to his question.

The potential amount of thc in hemp won't put you anywhere close to the minimum required to test positive

I suppose if you are so dense, as to confuse hemp with cannabis sativa, then you're incapable of common thought. Then again, it explains why it's called dope, and the rally cry is "let's get stupid"

After reading the first 5 or 6 pages of this thread I'm still kind of confused about what exactly a Vitamex does. I think* I much prefer smoothies and their consistency to juices, are vitamex gonna be so much power that it'll completely liquify everything? Or is there different settings where u can attain a smoothie consistency? If the Vitamix is too much power to produce a standard smoothie texture, what blender would you guys suggest buying?
