Interesting hypothetical- The EV of russian Roullete? Interesting hypothetical- The EV of russian Roullete?

I'm sure this is a conversation that members of the gambling community eventually stumble upon.

My question is how much for you to do it?

In the long run (LOL long run @ russian roullete) you should realistically expect 1/6 of the value of your life for neutral EV odds @ playing RR. However it is far easier to place the value of a 16.67% chance of dying vs a 100% chance of dying.

Obviously the question totally changes if you are really religous, really involved with family, or have a really awesome life. But for the average, not-wealthy, nonreligious, single person how much would you expect to play it?

This may seem sad but I view it as something of a freeroll since I'm an atheist. 83% of the time you get a vast sum of money, 17% of the time you die and disapear into nothingness unaware of the consequences.

I would probably do it for something like 4-5 mil+ basically the bare minimum for not having to work ever again though I view the value of my life as far more than 6x than that.

There are plenty of religious people that feel 83% of the time they get a vast sum of money, 17% of the time they die and go to a perfect world. Assuming, they would be willing to play in the first place. Your religion play is kind of contradictory.

Also, this will probably end up in RGT

under the view that there is no eternal existence or whatever, you are unaware of the consequences of missing out on living your life.

so how is it not a freeroll?

It can be moved to RGT or whatever, I don't care. I just didn't know where to put it, and figured OOT was a good place for random question threads

there would be no consequences to you dying? you dont have anyone that cares about you or you simply dont care about them?

In death, I would be unaware of the consequences.

Would need a 5/6 chance of basically ruling the world. Like, a couple trillion dollars and control over the illuminati.

This thread is really stupid. That's what everyone is trying to tell you by "engaging" in the conversation.

Just wanted to let you know, as I think you may be confused.

I'd do 5 bullets in 6 chambers for a meet & greet with Taylor Swift.

if youre only taking one shot your chances of dying are far less than 1/6 or 16.67%. when you spin the thing the bullet is much more likely to stop in one of the bottom positions b/c its heavier than the 5 empty cylinders.

Unless you're holding the gun upside down.

Regardless, I'd like to see the results of a test of this hypothesis using an appropriately large sample size. I haven't watched a whole lot of mythbusters but I can't help but feel like someone's about to pop up and tell me they tested it already.
