this is an off topic question but do you all have a lot of friends who you dislike? I dont mean on Facebook but irl that you actually see. I have stopped being friends with a lot of people just because they were not annoying/boring but it seems like many people just keep friends around even though they dislike them. This confuses me. What is your reasoning for doing so?

I think its pretty standard at the most baller of the baller places (e.g. el bulli, french laundry) just cause they change the menu so often and the molecular gastronomy is just so crazy and artistic and beautiful

definitely unballer at a place like picasso though!

I just got into it with, then unfriended a guy I was buddies with in HS (25 years ago) because he kept posting acerbic/off-color **** in comments on my wall, then got all weird after I told him to knock it off.

I feel kinda bad though - only because his sister went nuts and killed her kids and herself like 10 years ago and he and his parents still haven't recovered. He's obviously not balanced and I don't think he has many other friends.

It might seem slightly baller to people who see it on Facebook, but it's possibly the least baller thing you can do with regards to everyone around you at the restaurant. A lot of high end places request that you not do it, because stop being a ****ing dick.

You reminded me of something i saw a few months back. This obnoxious chubby girl took a picture of the dinner her desperate boyfriend cooked her and put up a caption along the lines of "mmmmm brian cooked me the best dinner ever! Sooo gooood!!" It looked like a 6 dollar steak and some ****ing microwaved mashed potatoes.

I was pretty taken aback but I told him I was really sorry etc., and have put up with him ever since solely for that reason. He was kind of losing it just out of HS - before that even happened. His dad was a teacher who got fired for some kind of relationship with a student. I'm wondering if the dad did something to his sister as well.

Should I contact him again in a while or just let him go?

Can we extend this to twitter? Apparently the cops took someone to jail that a friend of mine I follow knows. So a handful of people were tweeting and retweeting and whatever #free(insertname). Also making negative comments about how cops are, etc. Also the guy was tweeting (talking ****) and even took a picture of the cops while they were standing there.

I'm pretty sure 99% of the people have no idea of the situation going on, just like I don't, but I think it's irresponsible to retweet that and hate on the police for no apparent reason. Just shows ignorance in my mind. Tweeting and taking pics of the cops while they are talking to you isn't exactly the most mature thing to do either. That's asking for it. Maybe take authority a bit more seriously next time. So yea I'm annoyed. Guy was held for 10 hours and released FWIW.

I have a friend that's a pot head and he posts picks of delicious giant burgers, pizza and other munchies. I don't mind that too much though.

thats crazy! I'd still be nice to the guy.

There is a ******ed kid from my HS that I'm friends with on facebook and he posts random **** on mine and other people's walls all the time. It gives everyone from our HS a good laugh and probably gets a major wtf from people that don't know who he is.

reminds me of another story.

Had a roommate that hooked up with a whale and he got a lot of **** for it. He denied her friend request on fb and she messaged him everyday for a long time complaining about god knows what. (you can send messages to someone you're not friends with) I asked him why approving her was such a big deal. his response, "She's gonna blow up my wall!"

i've been seeing more and more emo rants about people being pissed off when they noticed someone unfriended them or made their wall private/whatever.

people take this facebook serious

In terms of sticking up for the little guy, I'm pretty sure cops are last on my list. Taking a picture of a cop isn't asking for anything. Cops shouldn't be taken seriously. "Respect authority" is also typically the rallying call of the dimwit, so if you don't want us to think that of you you probably shouldn't say stuff like that.

People are also obviously going to be annoyed when their friend is arrested - venting about it on twitter isn't exactly discreet but if it helps somehow go nuts.

I have to wonder how much is people on Facebook being idiotic/narcissistic/annoying and how much is people in this thread (including myself) just being overall miserable and unable to feel joy for others.

I wouldn't be annoyed if my friend was arrested and I didn't know the details. I'd be more curious as to why he was arrested and I wouldn't immediately start hating on the police or blaming them. I've had friends arrested before. Never was I annoyed when I found out about it, and when I found out why their arrested it was justified. I think making tweets talking **** on the cops while they are 5 feet from you and talking to you is pretty thick headed. The few times I had cops talk to me I looked them in the eye and actually listened. That's just me though.

At the end of the day it's not that big of a deal, I'm just sleep deprived and it rubbed me the wrong way and now here we are.

not a status update:

"Facebook has made it easier to let your friends and family know that you or your significant other is pregnant. The social networking giant has introduced an option that allows you to tell your network you are expecting a child.

All you have to do is pick the “Expected: Child” option from the drop down menu, pick a month day and year for the Due Date, and optionally provide a name."

Definitely. 2+2 (smart analytical types who lack advanced human emotions) is a very misanthropic place. That's why it's so awesome. It's like the counterbalance to all the fluffy bull**** I have to put up with IRL. Balance is key.
