I don't know how comfortable I would be breast feeding my child until they were a toddler. However, I've always heard people talk about how the longer you do it, the better?

I guess I must be lucky with my friends pregnancy updates. I seem to have quite a few who have just had kids or are expecting. None of the posts they have made would fall into the annoying or narcissistic category.

I just think it would be pretty weird to hear a kid describe in complete sentences how he's ready for mommy's booby now.

Would scan three times for sarcasm if she wasn't a dumb broad who posts "GO ____________!!!" whenever the Celtics/Sox/Pats/Bruins are in contention in anything.

Not like a handful of people died behind this **** or anything. Probably being results oriented but I swear mass has to be one of the biggest fairweather sports states. If not I feel for whoever has it worse, can't count the amount of people who suddenly realized hockey still exists on my feed.

I run hot on baby updates. It's basically just "____ is crawling around so much now! She's so adventurous." I can live with that. Not "My baby was gnawing on my titty until he entered kindergarten."

I heard you lose a lot of weight by breastfeeding though. Sample size of 1 but I saw this girl I knew who was pretty fat and she'd lost a ton of weight in a short amount of time and I had to comment and she said she's been breastfeeding and been shedding weight like crazy without even trying. She was actually far skinnier than she was before she was even preggo. She was one of those girls that you didn't even realize was preggo. Her's may have been a weird case but perhaps an ancillary benefit of breastfeeding is shedding the pregnancy pounds.

Is 'fairweather' really the word you want to use here?

Most definitely this. A friend of mine once said, "When [my child] was old enough to start asking for it, it was time to stop." (She stopped @ age 1.)

FYI the WHO recommends breastfeeding to age two and beyond. It's only weird to us here because we're not used to seeing it. Kids continue to get benefits from breastfeeding for as long as you do it. Also, extrapolating from closely related apes and their lengths of gestation, life expectancy, etc., humans should have a weaning age somewhere between four to seven years.

Eh, teach your baby sign language and they can ask for it well before age one... should you quit then?

I fear I am turning into OOT's resident crazy hippie lady.

Seeing older toddlers nursing kinda freaks me out, too, you guys, but I'm pretty sure that's just due to unfamiliarity. Also, pretty sure I'm not planning to breastfeed my seven year old or whatever, just wanted to let you all know, since you were being *******s

How long are you planning on breast feeding, Pongo?

I guess with pumps now, you don't really have to have the kid latched on to the breast to get them breast milk? I've never pumped, or even seen a pump so I don't know how it works.
Also, I know lactating can be preeeetty uncomfortable for women, can't imagine having it be so uncomfortable for that long.

As a human male I would bet any amount of money that I would be more ****ed up than I already am right now if I could remember sucking my Mom's boob. That has nothing to do with society or culture - it's just a basic human reaction. Maybe it's not as weird for girls.

But then throw on the whole societal thing where you start to feel like a weirdo when you find out none of the other kids breastfed until they were 5 - and it has to be a no-brainer *not* to do that to your kid.

Pretty sure?

If anyone has sat through the terrible movie Grown Ups, they have a running joke where they show an old kid sucking from Maria Bello's motherly milkbag.
