At least one of them called property manager because it was 4am and they wanted to go back to sleep. Waiting to talk to him doesn't get alarm shut off.

maybe each time they thought "ahh i'm sure he won't do it again, no one could be that rude." and then this time they snapped like 'WTF FIVE TIMES WITH THIS **** I WORK THE NIGHT SHIFT'

@ Thinman - Not everyone is comfortable complaining directly to the person bothering them, it is easier to report the problem to the property manager.

Yeah, well that is lame and frankly pussy behavior. If after the second time, you can't get up the ****ing courage to go ask your neighbor to fix his alarm and need to wait until you 'snap' so you can go cry to the landlord...**** you, I'm buying myself a new blender, not giving you a ****ing gift card.

Sounds like property manager is pissed having to get woken up at 4am, get dressed/drive to your place to unplug you alarm. TWICE. Probably apologize to property manager so they take the tone down.

I came here to post something way less interesting than this.

I agree with sharpy: you're a neighborly, golden-rule kind of a guy and I can see why this is eating at you, but man try not to take that letter too personally. Your first idea about a simple note and giftcard under the door was good, and if you want to write something separate (<200 words imo) to the property manager just to establish that you're a reasonable dude, then go for it; maybe tell him you're taking his advice on the cellphone alarm. Then just move on and be your normal self and things will eventually be cool. If they never normalize then your neighbors are probably just dicks and they would have always found something to overreact about.

this, property manager is probably exagerating the situation. go with initial plan. doesn't hurt to have neighbours on your side

Update - just left these on their doors

I did not include any gift cards for three reasons - 1) the letter made me significantly less confident in who I actually had inconvenienced (if they really received 6 complaints, some must have came from the adjacent building) so I only felt confident enough to write apologies to who I shared walls with 2) I absolutely did not want to gift card whoever threatened to not renew their lease because of this on account of them being hysterical whiners and 3) one of my neighbors had some very loud friends over last night!

I will call my property manager on the second and let them know I have apologized and removed the offending alarm clock

I don't blame you for scrapping the gift cards, sounds like at least one of your neighbors is a real prick.

Op read your lease. It's possible that your landlord doesn't have the right to enter in these circumstances and is therefore constructively evicting you by doing so. In fact the landlord may be violating your "quiet enjoyment." You may want to consult a lawyer with these kinds of threats being made. Many states laws are very tenant friendly and offer triple damages when landlords act badly.

That note you wrote has to be a level. Awesome.

Anyways, great thread. I got those type of threatening letters from management constantly during my first apartment lease when I was 18-19. I always blew them off but now that I look back I was definitely a obnoxious ****** hosting keg parties n blasting music until 3am every other night.

Just finish lease/move out ASAP if possible. Definitely send out more notes like above for the lolz.

Hello,

Interestingly enough, they don't make "Sorry I've left my alarm on twice while I've not been here" cards, but I do feel really bad that I've done just that! I just wanted you to know that I am sorry that I may have ruined two of your mornings and that I have given away the offending alarm clock! Hopefully this is the last apology card that I have to leave on your door! Happy new year!

Very respectfully,
the man likes his exclamation points.
