most girls are probably assuming the younger guys are lying. there's not many 18-20 yr olds make 100k+ and if they are they sure aren't going on plenty of fish.

Percentile by age, in other words you can only compare the same age percentile data.

while im sure this is true, id also say that the 18-20yr old girls who are looking for these young guys are way more likely to be still supported by their parents and aren't looking for a rich dude.

Clearly the correlation isn't perfect - they're probably using median decile or something, which may cover up some of the "noise" but could also amplify it in the odd case where the pattern doesn't fit.

It seems like there's not much of a correlation between reported income and messaging rate at all in the 18-22 range. I don't know why. Maybe women looking for those young guys are more interested in looks, or they expect the guys to still be in college. Maybe they aren't as in-demand as the older guys. Hard to know.

Also, those colors are based on the percentile by age. A top-decile 50-year-old guy may get fewer messages than a median 35-year-old guy. We don't know based on the graph, we only know that rich 50-year-olds do better than poor 50-year-olds.

OkTrends is pretty much an entertainment blog, they don't usually give really detailed statistical data (unfortunately). I'd love to see a representative scatter plot with a line of best fit, along with some quantitative stuff, but alas.

It's a fun blog to look through, even though I'm suspicious of some of their conclusions. (Even with this graph, it's important to remember that correlation doesn't imply causation - maybe rich guys are just better looking or something...)

Whole thing has pretty much epic potential. Starting a male and female profile and leading two strangers on and having them meet thinking they're meeting you would be pretty entertaining, although I f-ing love the idea of a bunch of forever alone guys turning up with helium balloons somewhere. Joy and sadness in one shot. Pretty perfect.
