1. would never ask for anything, but would be dissapointed if they atleast didnt take me out for dinner, nothing big just something to show gratitude

2. i wouldnt give out money, i would buy gifts/trips, i know some people close to me t hat would 100% expect something from me and would make it vocal even if they didnt buy me the ticket... pretty gutty coming to think about it

and OT but if i won the lottery i wouldnt tell anyone, people come out of the woodworks expecting money, and when you say no or even give it to them but expect them to pay you back they flip ****, not worth the headache

1. I expect nothing

2. If I knew the person expected nothing, I would give them a %.

If I thought the person was expecting some $, I would tell them that I was going to use the following process to determine how much they get.

I would ask them to write down how much they want to get on a paper, put it in an envelope and give it to me. I would tell them that I am going to write an amount down as well, and they will get the lower amount of what they put in and I put in the envelope. Wonderful head game.

I would not disclose how much I put on the envelope, but I would use what they put on their paper to help me come to a decision.

I don't think I am entitled to a cut, but I certainly expect it from anybody who I am friends enough with to buy a gift for (even though it is a lousy gift). Most decent people would air on the side of more than enough, especially if the prize is especially large. Since my friends are decent people (imo) I expect this from them.

Opposite to what some people say, I would happily hand over a large amount of money without any strings. Giving it in installments (or otherwise controlling the way it is spent) is ok for children but I find it very patronising otherwise. The money is more useful if you get it in a chunk and if they're not capable of using it well, they'd just dribble away the installments anyway. My rule for the amount would be something like figuring out what I think is enough, then adding on 50% of that too. Or something along those lines.

Not meant to be directed completely at you, many people in this thread have indicated they would "expect nothing" yet would harbor resentment for the ticket holder if they received nothing.
One is a prediction of human behavior and the other one is a reaction to how I disagree with expected human behavior.

this is the system that I'm familiar with, in PA. Tony, are you really saying that, in NY, retailers can find out the winner without such a process?

Because, if so, I wouldn't buy a ticket from ANYONE in the state. Don't the retailers get shipped the rolls, and put them in the locked cases themselves?

Maybe I need to open a lottery sales location... sounds like a gold mine!

It has been. There was a rash of lottery operators stealing winner's money in Ontario. It started to get suspicious when a guy who ran a convenience store bought a million dollar McMansion and eventually it worked up to the lottery commission who studied the problem and concluded that lottery operators were winning at triple the expected rate.

Completely depends who buys the ticket or who I give the ticket too

If my brother gets me a lottery ticket and I win I'm splitting everything with the whole fam and if the money is large enough I'd pay off all relatives debts and set up college funds for all of my young cousins.

If it's some random dude I don't expect him to give me anything but I would give him some money, prob something like 10%.
