How to worm cats? How to worm cats?

Anyone ever done this?

A cat who has come to the house appears to be suffering from diarrhoea of some description. I'm guessing a worm infection might be the cause.

But I see a lot of tablets on sale, but it can't be easy to get a cat to swallow a tablet.

Any advice appreciated.

They make a vet for this.

You've never heard the phrase "worming your cat"? You must be from the US, albeit it's listed in their dictionary too.

Anyhow, it's not just a vet's responsibility. Owners are supposed to worm (or "deworm", 'Murican pedants) their cats and dogs. I was wondering if anyone had experience with it..

Put it the cat's food. Wormers are usually liquid or capsules that you can break open and sprinkle into the food.

It's like boning a chicken is really deboning.

It depends on what you're boning it with.

You don't know it's worms. Take it to a vet and spend a few quid. Your new kitty it worth it.

Milbemax and Drontal are the gold-standard pills -- one today, another in 10 days, cleans them right out. If you need to get them from a vet ask for a larger supply just to have around.

If you can get Tradewinds tapeworm tablets, these are much cheaper and commonly commercially available; if your cat goes outside and is getting gassy and runny this might help you both.

Cats will take anything stuffed into a piece of chicken or cheese. Greenies Pill Pockets work well, too.

Greenies pill pockets definitely work for giving your cat meds. I've never wormed a cat but greenies pill pockets are my default for giving my cats meds. They actually really like them. They think they're getting a treat!

Hah, yeah, for a couple of days afterward regular treats aren't good enough for them anymore.

OP, "procedurally," it's a breeze. Depending on the situation in there and what you give the cat they usually sit quietly for the day while the worms die/let go, then they make a trip to the box and you're done. With roundworms (very common in kittens) you might see a bit of blood in the stool, which is just a function of the irritation and harmless.

Rarely you'll see any physical worms. Tapeworms are mushy as it is and they tend to dissolve, mature roundworms pass whole but are buried -- roundworm meds are paralytics while tapeworm meds are, I believe, a pesticide.

its easy for a cat to take pills. You put it as far in their throat as you can without making them gag..hold their mouth closed and rub their throat. They will swallow it.

Easier said than done. Prying and holding their mouth open while then throwing it down there.

Cant believe I am having to tell someone to "man up" over worming a cat.

Hold cat, put pill in cats mouth, hold cats mouth shut till they swallow pill.

May need towel to hold cat.
