How many pets until you're considered crazy? How many pets until you're considered crazy?

What about reptile people? I always liked snakes and turtles and lizards and ****, even though I rarely kept any.

I gotta say though.......I think 1 reptile = 8 cats, or 2 birds. At least. I mean, in general.

And don't get me started on people that have pet spiders.

if you're over the age of 22 then having reptiles is like automatic weirdo.

Anyone who has over 4 cats is in trouble imo, and the same for 1 bird. I'd even go 0.5 birds because I think at least 50% of people who get birds are ****ing crazy, and that low % is being generous.

Just get a dog with a hunter's instinct and a solid round nutsack instead. Dogs are the nut pet ainec.

If you don't live in a place with a yard and/or have family nearby then dogs are like having a kid.

I went to NYC from Friday morning until Monday night while my gf was in FL. We left out extra food and water for the cats. My friend who has a dog had to pay $$ to have him boarded, handle drop off and pickup, etc.

My gf was out of town and I had to work really late. I fed the cats when I got home. When my friend's wife was out of town and he had to work really late, he had to spend 30 minutes going home to walk the dog so he didn't piss and **** all over the apartment.

Too much work imo.

Insects (tarantulas and ****) are def the most flagrant indicator of weirdness.

lol at four cats vs. one bird from an ease of care perspective. Bird **** doesn't smell at all and only requires that you throw away some newspaper. Four cats blowing up however many litterboxes like the world trade sounds ****ing terrible.

and owning two birds makes you crazier than Elaine? *****, please.

I knew someone who had a parrot and an iguana. The iguana was ****ing cool. The owner was weird. Although he has settled down to a normal existence now. Dunno if he still has the iguana.

We have a lot of space and are likely moving to a place with even more space so that's not a concern. I will just accept my craziness and enjoy watching my birds play basketball and golf for my amusement.

People who live in the neighborhoods where these peacocks roam are locked in a constant battle. On the one hand are people who hate the peacocks because they apparently take enormous ****s all over everything and tear apart gardens. On the other side are people who are like "Dude, there are ****ing peacocks wandering around outside, how can you not understand how awesome that is?" I tend to think I'd fall into the latter crowd, but then again I don't have peacocks ****ting on my stuff and eating my flowers. Here's an article about the controversy (this is about 5 mins from where I live): http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?se...les&id=7812094

In related brags, exotic birds roam the grounds of the Playboy Mansion.
Peacocks are ****ing awesome. They wander around the zoo here. We were there today and saw this guy:

it's not an ease of care perspective, it's a "how likely are you to be a lunatic" perspective. my feeling is that median craziness of all bird owners is roughly equal to median craziness of all people who own either 3 or 4 cats.

Not sure about your bird but my 2 make a god damn mess around their cage that I have to vacuum every day. But I do agree that they don't stink up a house like cats do.

If you have more than 2 cats in your house, you've got something happening. If you happen to feed more than 2 cats because cats are hobos who like to hang out in your yard and let you pet them, you're probably okay.

meh, i think it's more weird to have hobo cats. you don't know if that thing's got shots etc.

we adopted both our cats as stray kittens. only way to roll imo, strays or the shelter... we had no plans of keeping either when we found them but they stuck. my in-laws have adopted 3 strays and they are pretty normal, i feel like the really weird people are the ones who go out and intentionally get like 3 or more cats, especially if you are paying for them, or feed stray cats with the intention of domestication.

We have three cats that are ours and we got on purpose and another cat that hangs around outside that we feed sometimes. We are probably pretty nuts.

We have two cats and then we'll sometimes foster a third cat. It's been a few months since our last foster cat. First one was a stray sitting in the snow in CT on Christmas. We took him home, got him his shots from a vet, set him up with adoption group, etc. At first I was like "ugh spiraling down into crazy cat lady community" but now a cat that would have probably died in the snow is prominently featured on the blog of a crazy lesbian who treats him great.

edit:

Photo of cat that would probably be dead by now living outside, seemingly enjoying life (the orange one)

Ham, it sounds like you might need to $how ¥our ₩ork.

It's necessary consider ease of care when determining lunacy, otherwise somebody wouldn't have (incorrectly) cited "smelly birds" earlier and Eyedea wouldn't have mentioned a pets:living space ratio. If I know nothing else about the pet owners, the one that wants to clean 4 litterboxes (or the equivalent of in cat****-hours), spend money on enough food for all of them, is fine with having their entire house a mess of cat hair is obviously more crazy than the person taking care of the single bird.

It sounds like you're basing your craziness scale on anecdotal evidence or just some kind of gut feeling about what it's like to own a bird.

It really doesn't matter how you get your original 2 or 3 cats. The only thing that matters is that they reproduce like goddamned gremlins, and before you know it you have 100 of 'em skittering from bush to bush screaming, "BRIGHT LIGHT! BRIGHT LIGHT!"

Well, I don't think the cats and the crazy are necessarily related.

I feel like that number is higher than for crazy cat people, but obviously lower than, say, fish.

Also restricting discussion to parrots - although small ones are allowed. Obviously someone who has a ton of finches in some ornamental cage doesn't count.
The number of birds is not what makes people crazy, it's choosing to live with birds. Also compared to crazy cat people, it is a different kind of crazy. Crazy cat lady is much more likely to be mentally ill, whereas bird lady is more likely high functioning crazy or rich eccentric.

I feel like that number is higher than for crazy cat people,
absolutely not. if anything the opposite is true.

None of this compares to horse people, who feel the need to contain an antiquated huge animal in small spaces that show moderate amounts of affection and cost huge amounts of money.

It's always given me the same vibe as American Gothic, which is silly since it's a cat and flowers, but idk.

No, owning two birds puts the onus on you to prove you're NOT crazier than elaine, instead of simply starting at that point naturally.
