You're a drug kingpin, your money is clean now. What are you going to do with it? Invest. Then the government wets its beak.
I can see this. So if the crook and co. play the game well enough, although the gov't likely recognises that there is shadiness on some level, there's some tacit agreement so it too can get a piece of the action. Sounds like a scandalous conspiracy theory, but greed ain't no conspiracy.

And, for those who don't understand the car wash references in this thread. In the TV show Breaking Bad, Walter White bought a car wash so he would have a "legitimate" source of income. Lawyer Saul also recommended that Jesse buy a nail salon for the same purpose.

Have you actually never heard of a front company? Drug dealer owns a strip club or whatever that doesn't actually make any money but reports as if it does?

Ya I've heard of front companies, and I'm a Breaking bad fan, so the car wash reference gets love.

Society wants criminals to pay taxes on their ill-gotten gains, but the common avenues available to them all seem to be illegal (front companies, money laundering, fraud, etc.). They're forced to commit more crime to pay the taxes on their crimes. I guess that's by design lol. We want the taxes, but more than that, we'd prefer if they quit breaking the law. In an alternate universe, I wonder if the societal costs of crime could be diminished if money laundering and other financial crime was unnecessary, and drug dealers and their ilk could pay the taxes on their income in a straighforward manner without repercussions on that end. Bizarre 1am thoughts.

Ya, and going on Ramsey's show was just some good ol' hiding in plain sight. My god that woman was histrionic. Hope there's a followup on those two lovebirds, even if ABC goes under, actually, especially if it goes under (if it hasn't already.)

What's the deal with Amy's Baking Company? I've seen that referenced several times and I don't know what it means.
