hey guys, im being asked to do a reno on a standard shower.

Trickiest part is removing the tub, we are leaving the existing valves, and going back with the old style 4x4 tiles

basic standard size 3x5 area with 8 foot walls.
Probably won't tile all the way up but im figuring it as if I do.

Been so long since I've done one I kinda have sticker shock so I figured I'd ask whats the ballpark labor charge now if you were to do a cheap reno?
Tear down walls to the studs, back with cement board, waterproof, tile and grout.

Not a brother in law deal, more like a nice neighbor price.

Thanks in advance

My neighbors back yard is leaking into my property... which will eventually ruin the fence due to salt build up.

should I write a letter or walk up to someone that I don't know?

My impression is to just try and talk to the person, but if there is long term damages, documentation could be beneficial.

currently, in the summer, the issue is somewhat intermittent and not really daily.

that residents ground level is at the leak point and they are about 2 feet higher than I am.

Two of my neighbors' yards are higher than mine (but not as nearly much as yours), so rainwater drains into mine. Turns out it is my problem to deal with.

I hope you have better luck. I think my first step might be taking a couple of beers next door and asking for help brainstorming a solution. It won't hurt, and it might help a lot--all for a couple of bucks worth of alcohol.

I’d just seal the wall-a good coat of flex seal will probably take care of your issue

first question is if there is any threat of structural failure or land movement

When I saw this post, I was thinking I was in biggerboat's thread. Then I was trying to figure out how a couple beers is going to help against tidal surges.

But then I realized a) not in that thread and 2) well, it couldn't hurt.

I tried going over this morning, but after repeated knocking and bell ringing, no one answered the door.
This was a few minutes after hearing a lady's voice coming from just over the fence in their backyard. Could be she was scared by a saved head guy ramming his fist into the door, or maybe she was still in the backyard and didn't hear the knock. Could have been in the shower also I guess.

.
Understandable... this is not drainage but over watering or a broken pipe in the landscaping system. It's the desert here.

Your neighbor should be eager to repair a broken pipe himself.

Overwatering is going to be a trickier issue. It may depend upon good will or education unless there are local restrictions on usage amounts. That does look like a lot of dampness for a desert area.

did you just assume the neighbors plumbing abilities?

1) talk to neighbor. Assuming you aren't allergic to human conversation, this is the easiest path to a solution. Even if nothing happens, you will feel the satisfaction of knowing that you are a good neighbor and member of society. If that doesn't work:

2) plant water-loving plants in that area. Climbing vines would look really nice on the wall. If that doesn't work:

3) dig a hole and place a sump pump within with a hose leading over the wall back to their yard. Tell them that you do not want to steal their water. If that doesn't work:

4) naked parties. Doesn't have to be big. Russian techno dance music is a must here. You don't need to invite people over if you do not want to, if your body is sufficiently revolting. They will move and you can try 1) with your new neighbors.

It doesn't take much skill to find and repair a leak in an irrigation system. It is backbreaking labor to do the digging in the desert though.

No, I assumed his check writing abilities if he's paying for the water to go next door. Could be wrong there also though.

I bet passion flower vines would look good there and probably grow well. They do great in Tx. I have tons of really pretty flowers, hummingbirds, and lots of Gulf Fritillary butterflies that love that plant.

I guess I'm going to break down and get some of the EGO stuff and fire the yard guy. Is it still the concensus around here that EGO is the way to go with the battery powered equipment?

Unless you are already heavily invested in some other battery-brand powered stuff, it is imo. We love our EGO stuff far more than any other battery equipment we have.

We've got the last two. Love both. Mower may be next if the grass recovers from this summer's drought. Enjoy!

Just make sure with the weed eater that you don't use anything more than a 2.5Ah battery as it can get heavy for extended use.

My two mistakes are not having an extra battery and no auto-reloader.

I noticed the weight when I first bought it. Now, it's nothing. (*flex*)
