I think part of the reason there are a lot of hipster baseball fans in LA is that they are NY and Boston transplants. They tend to be much more Yankee and Red Sox fans than Dodger fans interestingly. So, they grow up liking baseball back east, move out here and become hipsters in their 20-somethings and retain their love of their teams.
My sister went to the Art Institute in Chicago and I visited her once. The walls were crawling with skinny, mustachioed, beady-eyed hipsters. I don't remember any of them seeming like baseball fans but it was just a first impression really and of course, it was the Art Institute.

The black hipster, while rare, certainly exists. Depending on the environment he may be noted by his bow tie, brightly colored glasses or argyle socks.
