Hidden Camera in a Nursing Home? Hidden Camera in a Nursing Home?

Has anyone ever placed a hidden camera in a nursing home to spy on people who care for their family members?

Basically, my great aunt just moved into a nursing home and has fallen 3 times within the space of four days. She never fell before moving in. I think maybe they should place a hidden camera in her room and see what the staff is doing just to make sure she isnt being assaulted. Either way it seems like the nursing home is acting negligently due to the falls and some other details.

I'm assuming there is some sort of mental function decline that prevents you from just finding out directly from your aunt?

It seems like a little insane but I can understand doing it. The biggest issue would be the amount of area you can cover. Doing her room would be easy but doing the common areas would be difficult.

Exactly, I'm sure not all of the falls have happened within the confines of her room, which unfortunately seems like the only/easiest place to locate a camera.

Old people ****ing fall. I'm not sure I'd run screaming to blame the nursing home. Doesn't seem shocking especially if she's a new situation where she's still used to getting around. I mean it's not good, and you'd hope the home could be more help- but it may just be that it's time for somebody end up with walker or in a chair.

With my grandparents place, we're just like them to notice when they've shat the bed and change the ****ing sheets.

Of course old people fall. The whole point of a nursing home is that you're paying professionals to minimize the number and severity of their falls, among other things. So you don't care if the workers are, in fact, making it worse?

Not at all- but I think it's a leap to assume that they are in fact making it worse. There's a whole host of other factors that could be in play that you might want to explore before you start running a sting operation.

As someone who once worked in a nursing home, I can state that, if the one I worked in is ANY indication, there are at least a number of workers who are at best ambivalent about all the residents. But most of what goes on is more akin to verbal abuse and negligence, and very little is likely to be coming from the nurses. It would be very hard to get it on camera.

Grunch: She probably joined a flag football team at the home.

Maybe it's not the workers but it could be an area in the nursing home or his aunts room that's not safe but it's still something that needs to be looked into.

Or the lady could be feeling abandoned after being put into a home, and is injuring herself to get attention.

Not saying it's likely, just saying it should be on the list of possibilities.

When something bad happens, it's human nature to want to blame somebody. It's not easy to accept for an answer that "Hey, sometimes doo-doo happens."

OP, what does Auntie have to say?

True, but I guess I would say that everyone was torn between bitterness towards their jobs and caring about these dying people. Then we chose bitterness.

I would become a prostitute before voluntarily working with old people all day.

there could be more slippery floors there than she's used to. She's brand new to the place, right? Maybe her eyesight is worse than people realize. But the floor situation and unfamiliarity with the whole seen could make a difference too. I'm thinking if she's used to having carpeting at home and walking around on her socks and then tries to do the same thing on some sort of tile floor it could be "whoops! see ya later."

And if anyone of the issues have happened at night then I think that could definitely be due to confusion. Wakes up to go to the bathroom or something and it's dark and she forgets that she's not at home.

If it's all happening shortly after getting there it seems more likely to be something like that or that she just has some pretty bad balance issues going on as opposed to somebody on the staff there randomly whaling on her.

umm yeah, it does seem more likely that she's just slipping...but in the off chance some staff member is beating her, yeah, you should put a camera in there.
