if you like hardcore punk, have heart is probably the best.

If you like great screams and vocals with a lot of heavy breakdowns and riffs, a black rose burial is good.

If you're a hardcore fan, I really suggest you take a look at every band on my list, all of them are really really good, imo.

And dead kennedys are sort of like older.

If you could provide youtube's/descriptions for the bands, one could listen and then give you tips. As it is now I haven't heard any of those bands and I'm too lazy to find them myself. Also, metal etc is a big genre so my in-the-blind tips could totally miss your taste.

I've never heard of any of those bands, so I'm going to venture that they are on the hardcore side of the spectrum.

Try Unearth. They rock mightily. Also try Terror. Oldies but goodies.

Yea I consider myself pretty well versed in hardcore/metal and I've only heard of two of these bands, although admittedly I haven't been keeping up with the newer groups out there. OP, are you looking for other new bands or more classic ones? Open to other genres, or just hardcore?

Some of my favorite bands in no particular order (of which you probably know all lol): Dillinger Escape Plan, Meshuggah (obv), Mastodon, Tool, Emperor, Between the Buried and Me, Converge, Slayer, older Every Time I Die, Overcast, Chokehold (old old hxc band), Taake, At The Gates, In Flames, Isis, Misery Signals, The Red Chord. If you are into black metal at all, check out older bands like Satyricon, Immortal, Mayhem, and a really good newer band is 1349.

If you like Have Heart you will like Sinking Ships, both amazing hardcore bands.

I dunno what the kids these days are listening to, but circa 2001 I was listening to a lot of Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Coalesce, Drowningman, Botch, and Cave In. Anything new probably sucks anyway.

I just read that Pantera was good. Might want to check them out.

OP, tell me about "War From a Harlot's Mouth". That's a ridiculous band name. I kind of dig it. What are they like?

I will second Converge, Botch, and Cave In and also recommend City of Caterpillar and His Hero is Gone. If you're looking for stuff more on the "metal" end of the spectrum I would check out Nile, Death, and Decapitated. Wide range of stuff there, but let us know what you like and we can go from there...

The Crown - awesome death metal band. They don't exist anymore though.

Testament - old thrash band. Their newest album - The Formation of Damnation - is great. Check it out.

Decapitated - polish death metal. 'Nuff said.

Another old man checking in who doesn't know nothing 'bout any of those new fangled bands you list, but this Born Against collection is the best hardcore album I know of...

Born Against - The Rebel Sound of Sh#t and Failure

Blessing The Hogs
Deathbound
Haymaker
Hurtlocker
Aborted
Pig Destroyer

That doesn't include death metal. Can recommend tons of that too.

Good thread, I was just going to ask about something similar. I've started listening to punk kinda stuff and I'm really starting to dig it. I like more upbeat songs with a nice beat, and I definitely don't like heavy screamy/angry stuff. My favorites so far have been Ramones, The Clash, Dead Kennedys, X, and I've listened to a little Black Flag, though from what I've heard of them so far they seem a little too screamy for me. Any other recs?
